After an indeterminate stretch of time, James slowly regains consciousness in the sterile confines of a hospital room. Waves of pain emanate from his stomach, a lingering reminder of the fierce battle he waged against the Alpha Widow. The memory of his own unconsciousness following the encounter resurfaces, with gratitude for the assistance of an unnamed ally. In the hazy aftermath, James grapples with the sharp, persistent ache in his abdomen, rendering coherent thought a distant luxury. Suddenly, a voice, foreign yet reassuring, pierces through the fog, rousing him from his groggy state.
"Good morning, sir. How are you on this fine day?"
Turning his gaze toward the source, James discovers a figure draped in a pristine, flowing white coat, meticulously clutching a clipboard as if it were the key to the enigma of his condition.
"Elated to make your acquaintance, James. My name is Dr. Young. Tell me, how are you feeling right now?"
"Uh... where am I?"
"You're in QuantumCare Medical Center, or, in other words, you're in a hospital," the doctor replies with clinical assurance.
"Uh... what happened?"
"You were injured in an encounter with a monster known as an Alpha Widow-a rare manifestation of Nyllyth, a breed of demon, according to scientists who delve into such realms."
"Ahhh... Why does it feel like I just swallowed glass? My guts feel like they're burnin' up like a wildfire."
"During the fight, she stung you in the abdomen with her barb. The poison spread through your nervous system like butter on toast. Her tail was coated in all kinds of nasty aphrodisiacs, hallucinogens, and neurotoxins many of which we've never encountered before. But not to worry we've purged most of it from your system and stitched your stomach closed. We're just checking for side effects. How are you feeling aside from the pain in your gut? Any nausea, headaches, swelling, vomiting, or any other kind of discomfort?"
"Well, I do have a headache, and aside from my stomach pain, there ain't really nothin' else ailin' me right now, doc."
"I see, I see, tell me are your"
It was then three people walked in and James recognizing one of them. She was the female who aided him in capturing the Alpha Widow. She locked eyes with him just staring, She found herself drawn into him, coming closer and sitting next to him on the hospital bed. The room got strangely quiet as the too stared at each other. But Akumi finally broke the somewhat awkward silence with a question. Still looking him in the eyes and asked.
"Well your alive" she said facetiously.
James felt the lingering animosity in that comment. That came from their last heated conversation. But James just gave her a simple answer.
"Eyup"
Though she seemed upset by there last conversation. Akumi for unknown reason was somehow still worried about his well being.
"So how do you feel"
James rubbed his stomach before giving her a response. His mind going back to that depraved night where he nearly became breeding stock for a demon, and more then likely her entire brood of what would more then likely be inbred demon children.
"Don't think I know the polite word for it."
"I do, Miracle is the word we use around here. How did you survive getting impaled by that thing we captured."
"Y'all's little chatty scrap heap shot me with somethin' that patched me up for a spell. The rest was just plain ol' luck and the grace of the Almighty lookin' out for me."
