*Kelly's POV*

I walk into work, and my phone goes off. I pick it up out of my pocket, and I see the new text message. I ponder, and think it's a great idea. I go to work, and text her back, "I'll look around the shelter, I know what would be the best breed for us". I start my shift, and tell the receptionist I'll be on my talkie if anyone comes in and needs me.

"You have an appointment at 10, so make sure you're back by then. I'll inform you if any drop-in's come by," Nina, the receptionist tells me.

"Okay, see you soon," I tell her, walking to the dogs wing.

I walk in the doors, and nod to the security. They nod back, and I walk around. I see Bulldog's to Pomeranian's. They all look so lonely. I roam around, then think, we should get a puppy, not a dog. So I head down to the puppy area. I step in, and there are 5 puppies. I look on the board, and see what their ages and breeds are.

"An Akita, a Bloodhound, a Golden Retriever, a Shih Tzu, and a Siberian Husky!" I exclaim, "All are so wonderful, I wonder which would be best around four kids though."

I go the the puppies, and the Shih Tzu darts to the other side. The Siberian Husky runs up and starts pawing at my leg. The Akita is chasing it's tail and the Bloodhound is sitting there. The Golden Retriever is taking a nap. I pick up the Husky, and pet her. I look back at the board and notice that she's the only female.

She grows very attached very quickly, as I can tell. I know she's perfect. I set her down, and rush out of the room. I go straight for the front desk. I sign the paper work, and tell the receptionist of the Adoption Shelter to please take care of her and wait for my shift to be over before I come back.

I go back to the vet corridor, and just in time. Somehow, it had already been an hour. My 10 o'clock appointment started in five minutes. I rush, and sit in my office waiting.

*Time Skip*

I look at the clock, my shift is over in five minutes. I helped a kitten today, it had a thorn stuck in it's eye. The poor thing got an infection, but with a few weeks, it'll be okay. I sit and realize I never told Gwenn that I was getting a puppy today. I decide to keep it a secret, she'll love it.

I get out of work, and go to the adoption wing. I go to the front desk, and she nods. She hands me the crate, and I take the paper work off the top. I smile, and go to my car. I set the crate on the bottom of the passenger side, and I open it up. I sit in my chair and close my door, and pick up the puppy. I think of names all the way home, letting the puppy sit in the passenger seat, taking a nap.

When I got home, I decided on a name. Ruby, after Gwenns first miscarriage. Gwenn wanted to name our next girl Ruby, well, this puppy is our next child. I park the car in the garage, and I pick up Ruby. She jumps around, energized. I put her back in the crate, and quickly wrap it and poke holes. I put a pretty bow on the top, and carefully walk inside.

"Honey, I have a surprise for you!" I holler.
