In the summer of July 2023, Jaylen Marselles Brown signed a 5 year/ $304M supermax extension with the Boston Celtics. At the time of signing this monumental and historic deal with a well respected franchise (FYI: Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers are both tied at 17 championships, which is the most in the league at the time of writing this post) , Brown had taken a height of new level of respect and leverage.

For context, Jaylen Brown is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in Atlanta, Georgia,  Brown was a five star recruit among scouting reports made by ESPN, which rated his talents on the propsect scale of 96/100. This eventually translated to Brown being selected as the third pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA draft due to the selling point of his quick first step and explosive athletic leaping ability when attacking the basket, mixed with efficient marksmanship in the mid range area and occasional accuracy from 3 point range. The celtics saw a future star to build around alongside the prospect of Jayson Tatum who they eventually drafted the year after. Both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum eventually became the face of the team as they had a successful run in the 2022 NBA season making it all the way to the NBA Finals to play against the Golden State Warriors.

Jaylen Brown has a respectable and admirable career so far. His acheivements speaks of success and truimph in many volumes. He was part of an influential campaign in his 1 year stay at UC Berkely being named Pac 12 player of the year as a member of the California Bears. He also won many other acheivements in his career just to name a few:

1. 2 x NBA all star

2. All-NBA second team

3. NBA All-rookie second team

4. First- team Pac 12

5. Freshman Pac 12 player of the year

6. McDonald's All-american

7. Mr. Georgia Basketball player of the year

8. 1 time NBA Finals appearance (Mind you this is after beating three competitive teams in the Eastern Conference, which each round requires 4 wins. The celtics had to beat the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Miami Heat before facing against the infamous Golden State Warriors)

With the richest deal signed by any NBA player at that point in time, a reporter boldy asked Mr Brown a eye dropping question about "What he would do with that type of generational wealth?"

Mr Brown politely navigated the controversial bait and responded with a courageous statement that he wants to bring "black wallstreet to Boston".

Essentially, he is exerting his will and projecting the suffering caused by Jim Crow and segregation that is deeply engraved throughout US history. He wants to turn systematic marginalisation into empowerment through his power and access to various platforms to represent the voiceless to incite this change. This aligns with his 7uice foundation, which essentially promotes the purpose and vision to  end racism through providing universal free education, socio-economic mobility to attack the wealth disaparity through provision of health and wellbeing services as well as supporting real estate and government officials to work on providing new jobs, shelter and food and water. He believes in open and transparent growth, which as he points out should coincide with the stimulation of the economy for sustainable economic growth and decrease in unemployment in the long term.

His intellectual expertise has enabled him to talk in prestigious institutions including UC Berkeley and MIT. The interest in education remains pertinent in Mr Brown as he has a deep passion for literature and philosophy with his discussion on how social media stifles individuality as a form of a modern-day panopticon in the day and age where privacy is virtually non-existent and surviellance cutlure remains threatening with the possiblity of cyber attacks.

Jaylen Brown is still in his late 20s, but is way more mature than any other basketball player that I've seen talk and has wisdom that is enticing and contagious. I would want to root for someone like him if he ever decides to run a presidential campagin, but I think we all know his priorities remain true to basketball and he wants to win a NBA championship before furthering his partnerships and brand. He has emulated and adopted a servant's palette, concealing his intentions, and creating a mystique of exclusivity and power that is hard to deny and defeat in the eyes of a opponent that might want to overtake Mr Brown. His impact remains huge on and off the floor through his playing career and I believe that will be the case for many more years to come...
