2. The Shadows

Rebecca's arrival was a blessing for the new parents, who were overjoyed and filled with gratitude for her arrival. If she didn't come to see Clementine after her shift at the pharmacy, they would have lost her. Rebecca went upstairs to warmly welcome the girl after Carley informed her that she was bathing. As she stepped into the bedroom, she looked around for the girl but couldn't spot her. So, she called out her name, hoping for a response.

She called again and is still waiting for a response. That led her to the bathroom door. With anticipation, she knocked on the door and eagerly twisted the knob, only to find it was locked and her attempts to enter were thwarted.

Amidst the quiet hum of the kitchen, a sudden commotion shattered the tranquility. The sound of banging and shouting echoed through the room, causing everyone to pause their tasks and turn their attention towards the source of the disturbance. Lee and Carley exchanged curious glances before abandoning their cooking and scampering up the stairs to investigate. As Alvin tried to hold AJ back, the young kid managed to wriggle free and scampered up the stairs with lightning speed. It was as if he had wings on his feet!

With a loud thud, Lee kicked the door open and confidently entered the room. His heart skipped a beat and his body became as still as a statue when his eyes caught sight of...the lifeless, pale child's body underwater. Suddenly, the stillness was shattered by Carley's piercing scream.

Lee and Rebecca acted quickly, grabbing the girl out of the tub with urgency. As she brushed the drenched tresses off Clem's dull face, her heart raced with fear. She desperately searched for any sign of life, but Clem remained still, not reacting or even taking a breath. She had to act fast to save her life.

Rebecca placed one hand on the center of Clementine's stiff chest and set her other hand on top. As she locked her arms straight, she leaned over and compressed the child's chest. After the compressions, she passes her breaths to Clem. The wman repeated the action, causing the child's body to convulse suddenly. Rebecca helped Clementine's petite frame contort. She felt her stomach churn and her insides spill outwards. The experience was both alarming and disorienting, leaving her feeling a strange mix of exhilaration and fear.o

It had been exactly 48 hours since that terrible incident, and Carly had finally decided to seek professional help for Clementine. After all, life is too precious to let past traumas hold you back. So, founding a therapist to trying to open up the girl about what had happened and hoping to find some relief. Carley never left her side on the first day, but the therapist noticed how uncomfortable Clem was to speak her mind. Clem wasn't stupid. She knows what they thought of her and how her actions scared them.

As soon as Rebecca shut the door, she turned to Lee with a curious look on her face and asked...

"How has she been doing in the therapy sessions?" As Lee sat in his cozy home office, he diligently crafted worksheets for his college students and carefully slid the papers for next week's assignment into his trusty briefcase. As he glanced at his sister, he noticed the fierce expression etched on her face, which immediately caught his attention.
