"Adonis, Get up!"
The boy in question groaned from his bunk in cabin 7. Looking out of the window, he could see that his dad hadn't even started the day.
He'd managed a record 3 hours of sleep and he had to believe that there was a real life-ending reason for Lee to be waking him up before sunrise, for his brother's sake.He sat up groggily and squinted at his half-brother who stood in the doorway, still dressed for patrol, "I swear to dad Fletcher, this better be-"
"Chiron needs your help at the Big House. Some kid was attacked by the Minotaur." Just like that Adonis was up, slipping on his light blue cabin counsellor hoodie over his pyjamas and sprinting up the hill towards the large blue prairie house that held the infirmary.
Annabeth and Chiron were already there. His best friend was dressed in patrol gear with her blonde curls pulled back in a haphazard ponytail while the centaur was in his wheelchair, looking as if he'd just woken up. The duo where talking animatedly over a boy his and Annabeth's age with jet black hair and tanned skin, who was very clearly unconscious. Adonis immediately bristled at their neglect and decided to make his presence known, "What are you two doing just talking, get him inside?!"
The grey-eyed girl spotted him immediately, "Adonis-" The son of Apollo held up a hand for silence, gaze steely with concentration, "Help me get him inside." He insisted and she complied without complaint.
The two friends carried the newcomer inside and placed him on a bed. Adonis immediately began checking him for injuries, apart from some superficial scratches the boy had no physical injuries. He placed a gentle hand on the boy's sweaty forehead and searched for any damage beyond what he could see. What he found disturbed him.
"He's under severe mental stress... he's grieving." He turned to Chiron who looked on solemnly from his wheelchair, "What happened Chiron?"
The old centaur sighed sadly before explaining the events of that year at Yancy Academy while Adonis tended to a graze on the boys arm. Adonis learned how the boy - who he discovered was named Percy Jackson - had been attacked by a fury, gaslit, expelled and then witnessed his own mother's death at the hands of a creature that, to Percy, shouldn't have existed. The whole story was absurd, disturbing, and very befitting of a demigod.
When Chiron finished Adonis scowled, "You're telling me that this boy was attacked by a Kindly One and wasn't immediately brought to camp? That you had him believe for months that he was going insane? No wonder he got himself expelled!"
Chiron - the immortal centaur of legend, trainer of the heroes of old - winced under 12 year old Adonis Bard's glare, while Annabeth stared at him in apparent admiration. The son of Apollo had a way of being absolutely, spine-chillingly terrifying, especially in regards to those under his care - which Percy now was.
Behind him, Percy stirred and groaned. Adonis snapped his head towards the boy and watched as perspiration appeared on his smooth forehead, "Leave us be. I need to relieve some of his stress before he gets sick."
Chiron left the room, he'd taught Adonis himself and knew how he got when giving treatment. Annabeth, however, lingered in the doorway, biting at her bottom lip in thought with her gaze fixed on the boy in the bed. Adonis knew she wouldn't rest if she left without voicing her swirling thoughts and so he asked, "Annie, what is it?" The daughter of Athena met his gaze, anticipation swirling in her intelligent grey eyes, "I think... I think he's the one."
Adonis couldn't help it, he raised a teasing eyebrow, "I was under the impression-"
Her grey eyes widened, "Oh gods no! Not like that!" Adonis smirked and gestured for her to go on, "I mean that I think he's the thief."
