In a small village named Mitakihara, there was a timid girl named Homura Akemi. She was born with eyes that shone like amethysts and an abnormal heart condition.
Homura's sickness caused her to feel guilty, so she picked up all the chores at the orphanage to compensate. Because of this, she never made many friends, and the other orphans thought her to be creepy.
