Hello guys! Sorry I had to post late, I was busy all day. But, I also am starting a new pirate fanfic that will be out soon, it's called The Sea's Master (A Percabeth AU). Also, I'm trying to shorten paragraphs and just make more of them. Let me know if you like the new style! But anyways, enjoy!
Percy's POV
We walk through the bazaar, looking for a restaurant. We finally decide on Italian food and head into a family-owned place overcrowded with people. After pushing our way to the counter, a waitress hustled us over to a table.
We sat in a circular booth, with Jason and Piper to my left, Annabeth to my right, and Frank and Hazel next to her. I noticed that she looked around and started fiddling with a silver owl brooch awkwardly. As I glanced around at my friends I felt awkward too - Frank had his arm around Hazel and they were talking, while Jason and Piper were laughing their heads off and holding hands.
After looking at the menu, we sat there awkwardly for a while, Annabeth talking the silver owl off and messing with it in her hands, and me staring at her. I really wondered where she could be from. She looked different from the other girls I had met, and she also had those grey eyes - he had never met a soul with eyes like that.
"Hello, may I take your order?" A bright but tired voice snaps me back to reality and I look up to see a waitress waiting for our order. Jason and Piper ordered first and then went Frank and Hazel.
"Ok, two of the salmon... How about you sir? What would you like -" She gasps and drops her pad of paper. I see Annabeth tense up and stoop her head, which was strange since she hadn't even looked at the waiter, now that I thought about it.
"Percy Jackson! Wow! I - I'm honored to serve the prince!" The girls' heads snap up, all looking at me with the same expression. "Really, it's nothing. I'll have the same as Jason, and her as well," I responded, gesturing to Annabeth.
The waiter scribbled it down on her paper before racing to the kitchens, obviously going to tell the rest of the waiter that the prince was in the restaurant.I glanced around at Annabeth, Piper and Hazel - still looking at me in shock.
"Oh, I forgot you guys aren't from around here, so it's obvious you didn't know," Jason says. "You're the prince?" Annabeth says, and I see that's she's suddenly very worried about something.
"Yeah." I responded. What is upsetting her? I thought. Gods, I hope me being the prince doesn't scare her off. I hate it when my title gets in the way.
But why is she so scared? Did I do something?
Annabeth's POV
Schist.
Percy's the prince? Does he know who I am? Will he reveal me to his parents? Is he going to try to do something just to show the South how powerful the North was?
Will he have me executed? I thought.
No... the flashbacks... I can't think of getting hurt. But I could feel it coming on strong - one moment more and I would fall into the painful memories.
No, no, no. I can't think like that. Percy's too nice to hurt me. And if he knew who I was, he definitely would not be sitting next to me. But still...
Schist.
The only guy who seems genuinely nice to me and kind just had to be the last person I could be seen with. If my mom knew who I was with, I would be dead. In the grave dead.
No, stop. Don't think about her now. You're free, just for today. But wait - why is Percy grabbing my hand? Why is Piper shaking me?
"Annabeth, are you alright?"
I look around to see the worried faces of my friends surrounding me, except for Percy, who I realize I'm leaning against.
"You went so pale! You really scared us!" Piper said, her brows furrowed with concern. I try to sit up, but the world pitches downward and I fall back on Percy again. "What happened?" I heard Percy ask. "Um... it's just a um... a panic attack. She gets really bad ones, sometimes they knock her out."
It wasn't far from the truth, but I was thankful for Piper not giving away my past. The spinning has gone away, and my vision has gotten less blurry, so once more I try to got off Percy's chest. He helps me sit up, and I put my hands on the table to steady myself.
Once the food arrives and we all eat, I can't catch any of the conversation since I'm still so dizzy. I hope that it doesn't strike twice, but of course, I feel myself fall on Percy again as I realize that I was going into a real flashback.
*Flashback*
Helen is drunk in the kitchen, and I am bringing Bobby and Matthew back from the gardens. "ANNABETH!" I hear from the kitchen. "YOU IMBECILE! COME HERE!"
I walk in with a defining look on my face, determined not to show fear. "YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST GRAB MY CHILDREN AND TUN OUTSIDE WITH THEM? YOU DON'T EVEN DESERVE TO BE NEAR THEM, YOU IDIOTIC LITTLE GIRL! YOU ARE GOING TO LISTEN TO ME.
YOU ARE GOING TO STAY AWAY FROM MY CHILDREN AND MY LIFE UNTIL I CAN MARRY YOU OFF AND GET RID OF YOU. BUT RIGHT NOW, YOU ARE GOING TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT, YOUR DRESSES NICE, AND YOUR MANNERS IN PLACE. AM I UNDERSTOOD?"
I blink back tears, scared to say anything. If I spoke, I would get hurt. If I tried to get help, my x father would turn a blind eye to Helen's abuse.
"Yes ma'am." I say, hardly able to fathom that this was how I was treated.
"Good. Now, get me wine, and go to your room and stay there!" Helen screams, throwing the empty glass bottle at me. It shatters against my head, and the glass cutting into my skin is the worst pain I had ever felt.
*End of flashback*
OMG SORRY FIR THE CLIFFHANGER. ALSO THIS IS SHORT BECAUSE ITS ONLY THE FIRST HALF. DON'T KILL ME, PLEASE. I'll post the second half tomorrow along with another chapter but for today I have to stop here. Sorry again!
