Percy's POV

"Wake up, Percy! Today we get to go to the borders!"  My best friend, Grover, called from outside my bedroom door. My head snapped up and I scrambled to get ready. Normally I wouldn't even leave bed, but today I was getting to go to the borders. And when you were barely allowed to leave the city limits, that was a miracle.

I guess it makes sense why I can't leave the castle without permission or supervision. I'm Percy Jackson, the Voice of the North. Even though the people of the North love me, Mom and Dad are paranoid that some Southern assassin is going to came after me if I'm not guarded. So every time I try to go out and speak at events or even just to spend a night out with friends, I was either escorted by guards or not allowed to go.

And when I had the chance to speak at the edges of the North, I knew it was my opportunity.

Me, Leo, Grover, Jason, and Frank were planning on getting to the borders as early as possible, use the fact that Frank was a guard, and sneak off into town for a few hours. Even if it was just to walk the streets or eat a meal, it was better then sitting in the castle and never being able to leave.

I grabbed some random clothes and a picture fell out of the pocket of one of my jeans. I picked it up and smiled. It was of me and my brother, Tyson. He was piggyback riding me, and we were in the gardens. It seemed like so long ago that I was able to have fun like that.

Before I got older and became an advocate, I had lived a normal life. I might have been a prince, but I wasn't the crown prince. Tyson was. Even though he was younger, I didn't want to become king. I didn't care for long, stuffy meetings and taxes and wealth. I just wanted to live like I wanted to.

That was the main reason I became an advocate - I wanted to take a stand for my rights and what I wanted. And I found that most people did too, but they were too scared to say anything. Now, I went to events and spoke to these people, encouraging them to have hope in this war.

I grabbed a backpack from my closet and put in a couple things I would need if I went to 5he border. It was mainly water bottles, a first aid kit at my mom's insistence, and money so we could buy things in the shops and bazaars. I zipped up the bag, throwing in the picture of Tyson and me at the last second.

I checked myself in the mirror one time before leaving, messed up my hair, and run out the door to a fretting Grover and Frank. Grover's curly hair was plastered down by a bigger hat than he normally wore, since it was the middle of winter after all. Frank stood in his guard uniform and offered me a smile before leading us down the stairs and out into the gardens in front of the castle.

At the edge of the street waited a limo, and my parents stood in front of it. It was surprising to see them - they were super busy today, and it was the main reason I was allowed to go without them.

"Good morning honey! Did you sleep well?" My mom asked. The Queen stood alongside her husband looking bright and cheery despite the weather, and I hugged her.

"Are you ready for your day out, son?" My dad, the king, asked. "Definitely. Thanks for letting me go," I said, still hardly believing I was able to go to the borders. He smiled and they said a quick goodbye before letting me go to join my friends inside the limo.
