To Miss Lilian

...

Dear Lilian,

The speed of the mail delivery this time was fantastic!

Even luckier, I was the only one at home when I received the letter and package, secretly watching TV — "The Great Humbert." There's a rerun during the day; Dudley loves this show, and I like it too, but I've only seen a bit.

Dudley and Piers went to watch boxing (I hope they don't learn any new moves, after all, I'm their practice target).

Uncle Vernon is busy with his drill orders, and Aunt Petunia goes to visit Mrs. Figg.

Don't get me wrong, Aunt Petunia is no philanthropist, but her beloved little Dudders accidentally knocked down this poor old lady who keeps many stray cats while racing his toy car the day before yesterday.

Although Mrs. Figg is a bit odd, she's been nice to me, occasionally offering me a cake (but that chocolate cake tasted like it was expired). I didn't dare tell anyone when I visited her, that I had a pen pal who sent me a birthday gift.

Yes!

I received your birthday gift!

Oh my, I can hardly believe it!

I mean, Dudley received thirty-eight gifts last year, and thirty-nine this year (actually, only thirty-seven, the other two were added by Aunt Petunia later), but on my birthday, I only ever received Uncle Vernon's old wool socks.

So, you are the first friend to give me a birthday gift!

I'm so happy!

And the gift is exactly what I needed.

The glasses I'm wearing now are old ones from Aunt Petunia, and since Dudley often hits me, the frame has broken several times.

I even used tape to fix the lenses.

I doubted they would last through Stonewall High.

At this time, you, dear Lilian, actually gave me a pair of glasses!

Oh my!

Oh my!

I have to be honest, although you included two additional pairs of lenses with the glasses, the clearest and most comfortable ones are the original 800-degree lenses on them.

God, I didn't know my myopia was 800 degrees; my previous pair was only 600 degrees.

Aunt Petunia always said my myopia was a sequela of my parents' car accident, in her words: "Weird... Crazy..."

I often don't know if she's talking about me or the accident.

Anyway, these glasses are fantastic!

They are lighter, clearer, and even Mrs. Figg said they make my green eyes bigger and brighter, looking more like me...

As for who exactly, she didn't say anything later.

Anyway, thank you very much for your birthday gift, but I haven't dared to wear them out yet, worried that Dudley might break them again.

But rest assured, when school starts, Dudley goes to Smeltings, and I go to Stonewall High as a boarder, I'll definitely wear them!

Dear Lilian, I don't know how much these glasses cost, I hope it wasn't too expensive for you.

Also, you haven't told me how old you are and when is your birthday?

I hope it's not too close, otherwise, I might not save enough money to buy you a gift.

Regardless of your age, you are my best friend.

The best.

And me, you know, Harry James Potter, turning eleven on July 31st.

Yours faithfully,

Harry Potter
