Blondie

Blondie: Katie?

Me: Nope

Blondie: Beth?

Me: Are you just naming your mates? 🫠

Blondie: I'm running out of names, google isn't helping!

I can't help but laugh as I place my phone down. Me and Leah haven't actually seen eachother since the club incident nearly two weeks ago, but she constantly texts me names to try and guess mine. I can't complain because I would be lying if I said it didn't make me laugh and bring me excitement when her name pops up on my phone.

Soppy.

Amoungst other things, me and Holly have been so busy with more clients reaching out to the firm. Me and Holly are 'infomation gatherers' who occasionally run into trouble, but we are trained for that, it just means we have to do all the inital 'stuff' before passing it on. For the most part we don't have any dealings with anything else, maybe the occasional software hack and what not but my uncles top priority is that we are safe.

We need more people here, it's as simple as that. But Uncle T does not trust easily so it is so difficult to live life while also working. Don't get me wrong, the wage and fulfilment speaks for itself but I always question if it is worth it for the little social life we have.

"How's lover girl?"

My head snaps round and I see Holly, looking like Nick Cotton in a long black leather trench coat with two Starbucks cups in hand, lifesaver. She clearly saw me smiling at my phone.

"Zip it!" I say with an eye roll before she places the coffee at my desks.

She takes a seat next to me, "How's it going?" Referring to the stack of paper work in front of me.

"Mate I'm tired." I answer honestly, still staring at the paper work yet to do.

"Why don't you take some leave? you look shattered babe."

"And leave you with some stand in? absolutely no way!" I shake my head in refusal. It would actually be lovely for me to take some leave and have a chill but no, no way.

Her eyebrow raises with a fold of her arms, "Don't think I can handle it?"

"I don't know if they, can handle it...I won't put you in that position."

She thinks for a second, "Reckon we could both take leave at the same time?"

That's never happened. Me and Holly have never really taken leave in the 4 years we have worked together. The only leave being if one of us is injured in 'duty' or there is a bereavement.

"No chance."

"You could always ask," She says flat, skimming through some work, "Your uncle after all."

I guess what's the harm in asking?

Leah's POV

I rest my phone down by my bag in my cubby. I would be lying if I said texting 'Smooth Operator' wasn't the biggest excitement of my day other than training. When I go home I sit and practically do nothing if I'm not with the girls.
