The hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Someone is watching me. Again.

Not now! I say to myself.

This has been happening since I was 8. The feeling hits me for

a bit making me extremely uncomfortable then it goes away. Sure, by now I'm used to it but I

was really hoping it wouldn't happen tonight of all nights. You see tonight is prom night. And I

know, I am an outsider with the kids in my class but I figured I could still have fun at prom, right?

"Just let me be a normal teenager for god's sake." I whisper a tad bit louder than I intend to.

"Yeah like that will ever happen." Some kid walking by sneers.

Well, that's the sad truth, I sigh turning to face him. The guy looks past me for a second

staring at something behind me before shaking his head and walking away.

I was also used to that. People making fun of me. The last friend I had was uhh... My

imaginary friend I made up in preschool? Yep! Good old Felix.

I focus my attention back to the dance. Jay Let's just attempt to forget all the shit in your

life for one night and have fun. Yes, a nice fun evening for once. I tell myself.

Couples dancing slowly. This is totally not my scene. But I decided to have fun right? Well so far

sitting on the sidelines watching everyone has not been fun.

I gear myself up and stand up, walking into the crowd. I start slightly bouncing my

shoulders to the rhythm of the song playing. This is so awkward. But soon I start to feel the crowd

envelop me as more people start dancing around me. My confidence boosts.

Sadly, it only lasts a short time because the song changes and people start pairing up.

Unsure of what to do I am thinking about going back to my seat when a boy to my right gives me

A look then shrugs and holds his hand out.

It might be that I put makeup on today or it could just be the prom high but either way I

Was shocked. You need to understand that I am looked at as weird. People don't just ask me to

dance. Well technically he didn't ask me, but he insinuated. Same thing, right?

So, what did my shy ass do? I took that hand and rocked a spin till he had me in his arms

four inches from his face. Yeah, it was pretty awkward. But he did smile. Do I get points for that?

The slow background music sets the pace for my feet as I attempt not to stumble while

I stare into this random kids' eyes. I know what you're thinking, shouldn't you know him? He goes
