On a cold November evening, I walk out of the house with my twin brother Johnathan. We are going out to find any food we can. Our group ran out of food recently and we obviously need more. Unfortunately, it was my turn to go out. Jonathan didn't like the thought of me being alone out there with those things. So he decided he was going to come along. I wanted to go alone, but trying to convince him was useless.
We walk down the pathway we made over the summer to the nearest city. After the initial outbreak, we found ourselves a nice house on the outskirts of the city. It already had some food and water, and the stuff we brought with us. Though, after the months went by, and there being five of us, supplies quickly started to dwindle.
Adam made the cycle, he went, then Violet, then Johathan, then me. As you can see, that's not always followed completely.
"Amelia, your shoe's untied. You're going to trip on it." Jonathan whispers, trying not to alert any infected that could potentially be nearby. The both of us stop walking, and I bend down to tie my shoe when I hear shuffling that sounds like footsteps...
Johnathan walked over to the sound like an idiot. I followed him, though I should've just kept walking. Behind an oak tree, there was a little boy, he looked to be around five. He had a rat in his hand. The weird part about this is that the rat's entrails were spilling out of it. They were also in the boy's hand, which he was shoving into his mouth. You might think that someone eating entrails would be normal in the apocalypse.
While you'd be right, this little boy had crystal-like formations down his back. He had smaller ones around his eyes and nails. He's one of those things, or the infected. Anyway, the boy hadn't seemed to notice us. I don't think he could really see. He seems to be early on in his infection, so he most likely still can see a bit.
After disemboweling the rat, the young boy looked over at us and careened over.
