Take a Moment

Chapter 5 ※

1 week and 1 expulsion later, I lay on my bed and listen to crazy rock music to get my mind off of shitty people and shitty events. My mind raced with happier thoughts, like Romans small scar that ran across his bottom lip and ended abruptly. I wondered how he got it and how it would feel to race my tongue lightly across it. I wondered if it a silly accident or something serious. That tiny mark consumed my mind and ate me alive with questions I needed to know the answers to.

Ana still hadn't showed up and by the looks of it, wouldn't anytime soon. The house echoed as I skipped down the stairs and into the kitchen. Not only was I running low on food but I had no money to go to the grocery store. The credit card my parents got me when I was 14 flashed through my mind. I knew that it wouldn't be a problem if I just went and got food but I still felt so dirty. I retrieved it from my wallet in my bag by the door and grabbed the keys to run to Randall's. The roads were empty considering I left after the lunch rush and people were still in school or at work. When I arrived I parked as close as I could get and drew my jacket around me tighter when the breeze rushed through my bones.

Weeding through the aisles, I picked out healthier options and decided to try and cook more. As I went to the checkout I recognized the tousled mess of Romans hair in the candy isle.

"Looking for anything in particular?" I ask stepping up next to him with my cart full of food.

stop doing that!

"Doing what? I'm not doing anything," I tease as I grab some sour patch kids from the shelf he was looking at.

I WAS looking for something sweet but looks like I found it

He handed me the message he had typed out on his phone. I couldn't stop the blush that spread across my cheeks and seemed to erupt through my entire body. I bumped his hip with mine and turned to walk away.
I immediately paused when he gently grabbed my elbow and turned with an eyebrow raised.

"Yes?" I asked as smoothly as I could manage with his hand still on my skin.

go on a date with me. please?

After he handed me the phone I could barely contain my surprise. My inner teenage girl screamed and jumped up and down but the only thing I projected on the outside was a small smile and a nod yes. Roman nodded his head in confirmation and left the candy aisle in a hurry. I grinned at his retreating figure and turned to leave as well. I thought about my previous "relationships" as I made my way back to the house with a car full of groceries.

I guess Jake Rumple was my first "boyfriend". We were in our last year primary school and he asked me to be his girlfriend by giving his friend a note who gave it to my friend and then she gave it to me. Come to think of it I don't think we ever even talked. The following were back to back in 7th grade. I thought I was in love but my god I wasn't... After that high school was filled with a crisis of what gender I liked. I realized going in my final year (this year) that a label doesn't actually define my identity. Now, I'm just me and I happen to like whatever gender I like. For some reason in high school I couldn't accept that and basically bounced from girl to guy and then from exes to rebounds. I was a mess (still an) but at least now I knew more about myself to know who I liked. Roman. Before I knew it, I was pulling into my driveway. A familiar motorcycle was parked near my front door. Shutting off the engine, I lock the car and walk over to where Roman was straddling his bike.

"What're you doing here?" I ask unlocking the front door. I motion with my hand for him to follow but he extends his hand and brushes a piece of paper into my hand. The slightest electricity of his hand onto mine was enough to keep me frozen while he drives off.

I unwrinkled the note and smiled at his corky handwriting. All that was written was his number followed by a series of doodles and a little note that said 2 words.

text me.
