OCTOBER 27th, 2025. Xalapa, Mexico. 5.45 pm
The year is 2025 and Paige Mathews is now one of the most successful Whitelighters that ever existed. She just turned 48 in August, and is excited and terrified because her two teenage daughters, Kat and Tamora turned 18 and fled the nest while she is considering a big career move: giving up on her perfect-record whitelighter history to lead a coven of magical beings in Mexico. When she shared her plans with her sisters Piper and Phoebe, she could only say: "The fifties are the new thirties". Phoebe laughed as at exactly 49 she gave up her famous advice column and radio show and opened a private practice. She has a busy schedule as four days a week her practice is driven by the rich and famous that seek her professional help and on Fridays she is a therapist for magical beings, pro-bono. The magical beings therapy uses potins, spell, vision-quests, body-swapping and every magical tool available, always amounting to amazing stories. Phoebe was living a totally different life that year already, and she would celebrate her 50th with a big change too.
Coincidently, Piper also got an eventful year as she turned fifty. In a story that can only be compared to the greatest epic tales ever written, cosmical entities chose Piper to be the guardian of the key to time itself. After both evil and good magical beings started to mess up with the fabric of time by traveling up and down (or should it be say back and forth?) the time stream, cosmical beings decided for time traveling to be made impossible through any other means other than crossing a time portal. As the most powerful good magical being on earth, Piper holds the magical centrum that is the key to time traveling and must defend the gate from being used at all costs. It's like at 50 she became the goddess of time herself.
Ever since Paige has been on a solo adventure as a whitelighter/witch in Mexico in 2023 to help a young Nagual, a shapeshifter male witch that can turn into a Jaguar, she has been splitting her time between San Francisco and and a hidden magical community in Xalapa, Mexico. The Nagual, Eduardo, and an elder bruja, Selene, have been helping Paige connect with ancient forms of magic dating back to ancient mexican civilizations. and he and Paige lead a small but powerful community of magical beings living in a forest on the feet of a dormant volcano.
Paige is over the moon as Henry Jr., her seventeen year-old fell in love and is dating Eduardo for the past six months. Once Henry understood that his feeling of being different was not because he wasn't magical like his siblings or family but because he had feelings for other boys, he bloomed, showcasing a different personality, as if a weight was lifted from his shoulders. He now helps Paige with the day-to-day chores of the magical community and has found in Gloria, an african-cuban witch, a best friend. Even though Gloria is the same age as Henry Jr, she was taught brujeria or santeria since she was a child and passed on this knowledge to him so he could use all the magic a mortal is able to use. Henry feels happy; he feels for the first time in his life that he belongs with that people, in that community. Paige has her hair cut short in a pixie cut and her face is aged, she is becoming an older woman and she loves every new line in her face. She doesn't mind the age signs on her looks, but she feels frustrated because her physical style of battling demons is not what it used to be; her reflexes are not the same. As she investigates the disappearance of another older Nagual, Pedro, she wonders why her powerful teen daughters never help her.
