Although in his mind these were intermingled, it had actually not been many days since Itachi eliminated the entire Uchiha clan from the ninja map.

In that small period of time the young murderer, who was barely fourteen years old, had observed how his name -always pronounced out of admiration by wise men who assured that he was a genius never seen before- was now burned with fury, fear and disgust. It was starring in that horrible story that spread like wildfire among nations: "the prodigious son of the Uchiha leader is responsible for the fall of one of the most important families in the shinobi's history."

Prey to the most morbid human instinct, there had also been no shortage of people who invented one thousand different contexts to keep that infamous event alive. "What if he had done it because he was too young to control such brutal potential...". "What if both the village and his family had exploited him too much and he rebelled...". "What if he had become so arrogant that he no longer wanted to share the praise of his name with his last name...". "What if he was only blinded by the idea of discovering how much pain he would need to endure to get the most out of his Kekkei Genkai...".

The slander accompanied the rumors, and in a little less than a week the teenager's full name spread throughout the shinobi world with hatred and terror in equal measure. Itachi was a famous monster, an exterminating angel, a caller of nightmares.

Itachi didn't care. After all, that price to pay was part of the deal and he had accepted it. Massacring his own clan under the direct order of the Third Hokage and his Advisors to intercept the coup d'etat that the Uchiha had almost finished planning, and prevent a civil war that would sink the Leaf even deeper into that military hole that the Kyubi attack left them years ago.

The only thing Itachi had been able to rescue from all that garbage had been his little brother, and if he wanted him to stay in that peaceful place for which he sacrificed everything, he would have to endure his hatred for the rest of his life.

Because no one had to know the truth.

The young Uchiha -who was wearing light black clothes- made use of his incredible vision to focus, effortlessly, on the small digital watch that decorated the wrist of a middle-aged man who was almost at the other end of the carriage of the train. It was Tuesday, a Tuesday morning that was barely approaching dawn, and Itachi had not managed to sleep a wink that night either.

The sadness was still anchored to his chest, tearing his flesh every time he tried to remove it. The only thing that managed to distract him a little from his own head was separating himself from that unbearable organization of which he was now part of, taking any train at the nearest station and wasting hours and hours on it, observing the different landscapes, and getting off at the one that would attract more his attention.

Sad and lonely hobby, tho.

Many times he didn't even know what village or forest he was in, and the more lost he got, the better he usually felt. However, Akatsuki wasn't so happy about that. It was annoying for this Tobi guy, the one who recruited him, to have to search for his whereabouts every time he had a new kill mission for him. He had made it clear to the young Uchiha on several occasions that his potential was the only reason they allowed him to behave like a brat. A spoiled Itachi simply limited himself to proving Tobi completely right, completing his mission, and leaving again for days somewhere he had never been or where only few people would recognize him.

And that time it was no different. The sun had almost finished peeking over the horizon when Itachi left the train and the unknown station behind. That place, so new to his senses, had looked gloomy and gray from inside the carriage, matching the mood of the Uchiha himself, and as soon as he entered the agricultural fields he noticed the light, cold and humid air of the dense forest that it stood a kilometer away from him.
