A car driving down a road. The husband was driving wearing his thick glasses, as his blonde wife next to him looks at the map. Their young daughter continues to watch all the trees and mountains go by in awe. This being the first vacation by the family was definitely an experience for the daughter.
The disaster that awaits the family is unknown to all but two. As the parents give up trying to find where they are, they stop at a shop. On a random back road, this shop basically in the middle of nowhere. The husband decides to go inside and ask for direction as the wife and kid stay in the car.
The daughter feeling anxious to go into the store. An itching feeling just pulling at her gut to get out and get into the store consume her. "Mom why don't we go in?" ask the daughter.
The mother glances at her daughter and can't say no to her. They both walk hand in hand into the store. They notice all the crafts, dolls, and bottles. The mother looks around searching for her husband.
"Leon? Where are you?" She pulls her daughter along the shelves finding a counter with a door behind it. She hears a quick shuffle as she run to the door.
"Baby, stay right there. Mommy is looking for daddy." The mom says before disappearing into the door.
The daughter was very curious about everything inside the shop. The pull in her stomach wasn't going away. As she approached a necklace, she couldn't tear her eyes away from the beauty.
She didn't notice her parents discussing the trip behind her, or even the nagging feeling in her stomach slowly disappearing. The daughter lifter her hand and attempted to touch the beautiful necklace.
A hand grabbed her wrist, the daughter gasped in shock. Her eyes feel of fright.
"How dare you attempt to touch that history artifact right there. " The hand tightened on her wrist already starting to cause bruising. An older woman with a sour look on her face stared back at the daughter.
The parents immediately walked over there and grabbed the ladies hands. Shoving them off the daughters.
"Please don't touch our daughter like that again please." Leon staid as he picked up his terrified daughter.
The old lady rolled her eyes. "She deserved it, all she had to do was read the sign."
P l e a s e d o n o t t o u c h t h e n e c k l a c e ! !
The old ladies eyes never shifted from the young girl. Her eyes calculating as she begins to smile showing her missing teeth. The daughter flushed in embarrassment before burying her face in her father's neck.
"Aren't you curious about the story of the necklace, little girl?" The older woman cackles.
"I think we-"
" Oh trust me I think your daughter wants to understand." The old lady says interrupting the mother.
"There was a girl named Alama. This girl wasn't like any ordinary girl, she would always be surrounded by some type of animal. The villagers always thought something was odd about this girl. They finally accepted magic was involved when the town went through a drought. Everybody had lost their farming and some animals actually died. Alama and her family were the only people in the town that still had their garden."
" I really think-"
The mother elbowed her husband intrigued by the story. The husband stopped attempting to interrupt once his wife sent him a glare.
The older woman glared at the husband but appeared to be amused by the couple's interaction. "Alama had become an outsider along with her parents. At her age she was supposed to be getting married soon, but no one wanted to be acquainted with what they assumed was a witch. Everybody didn't realize the extreme of this young girl's powers. One of the villagers was also a villager. She decided to teach Alama all she knew about their special kind. They were called the Lights. The villager decided to give Alama this necklace right here. That is why it is so special." The woman heard a noise behind the counter. She quickly yelled out some foreign words before a quick scurrying noise was heard before it was silent.
The daughter climbed off her father and ran to the older woman. Grabbing her sleeve she begged her to finish the story. Once the daughters hand touched the older woman, they both gasped at the slight sensation that passed between the two of them. The woman nodded before carrying on.
"Now you must understand that people are afraid of what they don't understand. They killed Alama's family and tried to burn the poor girl. Only that poor girl didn't die, she had cast some type of spell securing her return. She vowed to come back and prove to the world that the Lights won't burn out. No matter how many attempts they make to kill them all. After the fire went out Alama was gone. "
The older woman looked at the daughter before taking the necklace off the shelf.
"Here."
The daughter took it and immediately put the necklace on. A slight light surrounded the rock and a design was created. Leaves and vines surrounding a rose is what became engraved within the dark stone. The witch took the necklace and traced the design.
"He will have this mark imprinted on him. That is how you will know."
The older woman walked off and went behind the counter into the door. Once the car outside started and left; a young boy came out of the shelf walking to his grandmother.
"Grandmother, I felt it."
The grandmother touched her grandson as he started itching his shoulder. He lifted his sleeve to find a rose surrounded by leaves and vines marked on his arm. He smiled looking at his grandmother.
"You told me I'd never find her!" He yelled in excitement.
"You must wait until you have control of your gifts, she doesn't understand. But she will soon."
