The lunch break went pretty well. James talked with all my friends, like he'd known them for longer than 20 minutes. After lunch we all went to the roof, where we had this little "chill" place. Like 2 couches under a little wooden shelter. Nothing much but it was ours. Jack and cameron sat on their usual place. The rest just tried and fit everyone in and in the end I ended up on Ash's lap because there was no more place. James was sitting next to us.

"So how do we celebrate this all?" Jack asks.

"What do you mean?" Cameron is confused. Wait, what? Cam is confused about something that Jack said, what the hell is going on between them 2?

"Guys why do I get the feeling something's wrong between you two?" I asked.

"Nothing." they both answer me in the same moment, look at each other and just turn back to look at me.

"Well, okay then..So what do you wanna celebrate Jack?" I shoot them both a look. I don't believe them that everything is allright but if they don't want to talk about it, I should just drop it.

"Everything? Our last year just started? New guy in the group and Ashley and Matt are making out waaaaay less than last year, so I mean we have to." Everyone laughs at his joke and Ashley throws one of the pillows at his face.

"What do you have in plans? We can't throw a party because the bonfire is already in 2 weeks and we have to start organizing things.." Ashton remarks. He's right, our annual bonfire is so close and I nearly forgot it. It's a thing our group organizes and the whole school comes too.

In 5th grade I made a bonfire with some of my friends in the woods behind my house. It started little, bonfire for 2 hours with soft drnks and some snacks. It all ended well so we decided to do one the year after as well. It was so for a couple years. But in 8th grade, Jack and Cam asked too many people and the word got around. Over the 100 people showed up and that's how it got this big. Now it became a tradition.

"Shit, I forgot all about it! What about we all get together at my house this Saturday and do all the needs?" Matt decides and we all agree.

"Yeah, we should.. before the year really starts and we won't have time for nothing." I smirk and feel Ash laugh underneath me. The thing is that I was being sarcastic. We never do shit for school so it's not that we're busy with school anyway.

The bell rings and we all get up. I see James stand up and looking around a bit akwardly. Ofcourse, no one really asked him and since it's not like we have to make personal invitations in the group, he probably feels a bit excluded. I let everyone leave and call his name. He turns around and waits for me.

"So, how do you like it here?" I ask, we start walking down the stairs.

"I actually like it, for once." he smiles and rubs his eyes.

"For once?" I let my curious self take the lead.

"Yeah, I've been changing schools like socks the last couple years. My mom likes to travel and be somewhere else each 6 months." Oh, so he's not staying? Too bad, he's actually really nice.

"6 months, huh? It's enough to make you wanna ditch your mom and stay with us!" He laughs at my comment and shows the cute little dimples he has. We are nearly in our English class.

"You don't need to convince me, I am staying this time. I moved back in with my dad. " He smirks and walks inside. We take our places and wait for Mr. Smith to enter the classroom. My usual seat next to Ashton is taken by some blonde I never seen before. WTF, actually? Ash gives me a confused look and I just shrug at him. I see James take the front seat and go after him. We sit down and wait for the teacher.

When mr. Smith walks in, I hear a few girls sighing in the background, I let out a giggle and James laughs at our reaction.

"So, he's the hot teacher, I suppose?" James can't seem to stop laughing and he asks it a bit too loud. Mr. Smith turns around and glares right at him. His smile disappears immediately.

"Don't be afraid, he seems harsh at times, but he wouldn't hurt a fly." I laugh at my own joke.

"You don't have to tell me." he smirks.

"What do you mean?" I question, huh does he already know mr Smith? I give him a confused look.

" Oh, uhm I meant-" before he can explain himself, mr. Smith unerrupts him.

"Welcome everyone." he begins. "I suppose y'all know who I am, so I don't have to introduce myself." he glares right at James, his voice harsh and kind of strict. Wow, slow down buddy, what's happening. "As you know, you're seniors now." a few chuckles are heard over the classroom.

"The good thing is that it's your last year, the bad thing is that it's not going to be easy." he eyes me. Oh wow, he means that.

"I need you all to stay focused this year, no time for parties nor love. I need you to be 100% with me!" wait a minute, what got into him?

He walks over to one of the cabinets in the back of the room and takes some books.

"The first thing you'll have to read this year is something I bet all of you already heard about, Paper Towns. I know it's not a classic, but this year I'm going to take it differently." he deals out the copies and walks back to his desk.

Everyone stays quiet as he looks around. Wtf is actually happening? I thought he was like the coolest teacher in our school, what happend to him?

"Now, that I've shown you all that I actually can be strict." he speaks up again but this time his tone is calm and nice, like I was used to. "We can go back to the normal." he laughs.

"I'm sorry if I scared you, I just wanted to let you know that I can be like all the other teachers. But I just don't want to be. I want to talk with you like with normal 17 year old kids, but you need to do the same for me. I expect from you that you'll show respect and behave good in this class." he smiles politely and again a few girls sigh.

"So now, that we have this behind us." he claps his both hands and smiles. "We can start the new program." he takes his copy of the book and leans against his desk.

"Oh I nearly forgot, first, let me introduce you to someone."

He walks over to our desk and I look confused. James' cheeks get a bit pink and he shuts his eyes. I give him a pat on his shoulder. "It's not that bad to be new." I whisper.

"James can you stand up for a second." James looks awkwardly up and shoves his chair back.

"I want you all to meet my son James." For a second I actually think that he said son. But that's impossible right? I heard that his ex-wife moved away from him 13 years ago and took his soon with her and ..

OMG IT ACTUALLY CAN BE TRUE.

I look around and see confusing looks.

James looks at me and shakes his head.

Well hell yeah, now we have two hot Smiths at our school.

He stands up and I see his cheek getting the color of a tomato. Oh poor little boy, now he'll be the number one goal for each and every one of the plastics.
