Diana hears the door of her dad's truck close with a loud slam outside her bedroom window. "Diana, ready to go?" her dad yells.
"Just grabbing a few things" she yells back. Quickly grabbing her headphones and books for the road and she makes her way down the steps.
Giving her mum a quick kiss on the cheek, she sprints out the door. Climbing into the front seat she gives her dad a small smile indicating she is ready to go.
Diana was about to spend her summer working at Camp Lily Pad, a camp she had been attending ever since she was little. She remembers her first summer there full of smores, swimming and late nights in the cabins gossiping about the cute boy in the cabin beside hers.
She is pulled from her thoughts as her dad clears his throat "How are you feeling Di?" he questions. "I have mixed feelings," she says, now looking at her dad. He gives her a knowing look as if asking for a better answer.
"Well I am grateful for the opportunity and the money is decent, but I am worried I won't get on with my fellow counsellors, that's all", she says in a lower tone.
"Diana, you will have a blast working there, you love working with kids and being outside, you know the two main components to the job," he says with a chuckle.
Diana nods knowing her dad is right. "I hope so," she says quickly and turns to look out her window at the lush trees flying by.
After a few hours, Diana is awakened by the rumbling of gravel beneath the truck. She rubs her eyes as the camp comes into focus. Taking a deep breath, she looks around the familiar camp.
"It looks like they put a new dock in," her dad says as he points out Diana's window.
She looks over at the stunning blue lake, and in fact a little off to the left there is a brand new dock, it stretches a few meters into the lake, with a slide on one side and a ladder on the other.
As they make their way up to the car park, she notices the dining hall which now has a fresh coat of paint, the fire pit that has stayed the exact same since she attended, and the meadow where she would spend her days reading in the warmth of the sun.
Continuing their journey a little farther, they eventually make it to the car park. Diana and her dad say their goodbyes as she grabs her luggage from the back seat.
After watching her father's truck disappear down the road, she makes her way to the main dining hall remembering her boss on the phone saying the bunking situation will be posted on the large bulletin board inside. Diana pulls the wooden doors open and walks inside, she makes a b-line to the board excited to see who she will be sharing a cabin with for the rest of the summer.
Now in front of the board, she searches for her name, after a few seconds she finds it and begins sliding her finger along the names next to hers.
"Remus Lupin, James Potter," then Diana gasps loudly as she reads the final name.
"Sirius Black".
Suddenly, the excitement she once felt is replaced with worry. "I have to share a fucking cabin with Sirius fucking Black," she says out loud. Diana normally isn't one for cursing, but in this case, it was necessary.
She quickly makes her way to the cabin in a panic, hoping the living arrangement isn't too bad to share with her mortal enemy.
As she opens the door, the hopes for a good living arrangement is squashed. She steps in slowly taking in her new home for the next two months. Directly in front of her seems to be the common room, with a couch, two reclining chairs, a coffee table and a small fridge. Behind the couch, there is a dividing wall, behind it are four beds set up. Two along one wall and two along the other. Finally, at the end of the bedroom, there is a small washroom with a shower, toilet, sink and vanity.
She sighs audibly at the fact she will have little to no privacy all summer, and on top of that, she is sharing it with her enemy and two boys she has never met. Tears slowly start to creep in as the reality of what is going on truly hits her. Knowing the rest of the counsellors shouldn't arrive for a little while longer, she decides to take a quick shower to calm herself down.
Prior to her shower, she decided to unpack, she picked the bed next to the window closest to the washroom. To the right of the bed, there is a small nightstand where she loads some of her belongings. Once she has finished, she picks a drawer in the washroom to throw her toiletries in.
Turning on the water she expects it to be ice cold, which in this situation would have made her break. But thankfully the water is relatively warm, but as she continues to shower it slowly becomes ice cold, so she decides to get out even though she would rather hide in there the rest of the summer. Finally stepping out, she throws a white fluffy towel around her and leaves the washroom.
Standing in front of her dresser which is on the other side of her bed, the small fridge catches her eye again and fills her with curiosity.
So still, in her towel, she struts over to the fridge and crouches down to take a peek, and that's when she hears an oddly familiar voice coming from behind her on the couch.
