*FLASHBACK~AGE: 9*
"Vanessa?"
"Vanessa, wake up baby"
"VANESSA!"
My eyes shot open and I looked up to find my mother sitting on the edge of the bed in shock.
"Goodness! Vanessa are you ok?", she asked as she placed a hand on my forehead. I cringed and was confused on what she meant. I was tired and wanted to go back to sleep.
It was the middle of the night and my mom had awoken me.
"What are you talking about?", I asked annoyingly as I turned from her and hugged on to my pillow in need of some sleep. I shut my eyes and just wanted for her to leave..
Not to be mean.
"You were sleep talking!", she exclaimed, "You wouldn't stop talking until I came in to check on you".
I turned my view back on her and opened my eyes to find her looking worried. Me sleep talking?
Never.
At least I don't think so.
"What-"
"You're running a fever", she said as she got up from the bed to leave, "Don't move".
She left and I just laid in my bed in confusion about everything.
One: I don't do sleep talking.
Two: My head doesn't even hurt.
Three: Why is she so..panicky at the moment?
I sat up and felt a pang of pain in my head. I gasped and held on to the sides of my head with both of my hands.
Ok. Maybe I am running a fever.
Mom came in with a glass of water and medicine in her hands. She sat on the same spot on my bed and opened the medicine bottle.
"Here drink this", she said as she poured the medicine on a spoon. I furrowed my eyebrows and took the sour-flavored thing in my mouth and swallowed. I stuck out my tongue in disgust from the taste and took the glass of water from my mom's hands to wash away the flavor.
I handed the glass back to her along with the spoon and laid myself on the bed again. She looked at me worried and was pushing some strands of hair behind my ear.
"What did I say?", I asked as I took my arms underneath the covers.
She sighed and locked her eyes on mine. "You were saying stuff that you wanted daddy back and was asking questions in your sleep as if you were talking to someone else. You wouldn't stop", she said as she placed a light kiss on my forehead and fixed the wrinkles on the covers of my bed.
