*FLASHBACK~AGE:8*
I fluttered my eyes open. I took a look around my room and noticed it was still dark outside. My eyes roamed to the clock that was beside me.
3:06 am
I yawned and sat up from my bed while trying to clear the haze going on in my head.
I sat on my bed for a moment until I heard someone crying from outside my room. My attention turned towards my bedroom door and realized it was my mom crying.
"Mommy..", I whispered as I got my tiny body out of bed and ran to my door.
I exited and ran to her room. I went inside and saw my mother on the floor with her hands covering her face while papers were scatterred around her.
Job applications and child support papers.
I was about to get a hold of the papers until she grabbed my wrist and blocked me from getting them.
"No Vanessa", she said as she continued sobbing. My eyes widened while I felt a sense of fear flash before my eyes. "Mom look at me", I quietly commanded.
"Go to your room Vanessa", she roughly said.
"But mo-"
"GO TO YOUR ROOM! Can't you understand that?!". She removed her hands from her face to take a look at me. Her hair was hung loosely on her shoulders, she was still in her jeans and t-shirt from the morning, and her makeup was covering the bottoms of her eyes.
I knelt down on my knees in front of her and ignored her orders. I placed a hand on her cheek and began to rub away the new form tears making it's way down.
"No more jobs", I began to whisper, "Three is enough. You don't need anymore".
My face was a few inches away from her's. She looked up at me and I noticed how scared she's been feeling. I looked down at the child support papers and noticed that she's been paying..
but my dad hasn't.
My eyebrows furrowed in concern, but I didn't bother with asking questions.
I moved the papers away from her and placed them stacked on the side of the room.
"Go to sleep mommy", I said while I stood up from the floor and dragged her hand forward for her to get up. "Enough is enough"
She didn't budge from her spot, but after a minute of silence, she got up and made her way to her bed.
She laid there while coughing and sniffling.
I gasped and realized she's been getting sick as well.
I grabbed an extra blanket from the end of the bed and placed it over her. "Don't go to work if you're not feeling well. Take a day off mommy"
I placed a kiss on her cheek and turned of the lamp. I exited the door and closed it while walking to my room. I made it inside and slowly walked to my bed.
I got on top and laid down while thinking of so many reasons why my mother is dealing with the tough things in life.
She's only twenty six while being an only parent to her daughter while balancing three jobs and making sure she's paying everything for the apartment.
