Tobio didn't go to afternoon practice, coach had 'banned' him, so instead he sat on the couch, sulking and waiting for Tanaka to get back.
He laid there, watching tv all afternoon until Tanaka had stepped through the door, looking tired. "Have you been lying there all afternoon?" He asks, Kageyama sighs, pausing the tv to give him his attention.
"Yeah, I guess I have." Kageyama motions for him to come closer. Ryuunosuke complies, Tobio hugs him, squeezing tight and accidentally inhaling the stench of sweat. Kageyama pushes him away, coughing and spluttering.
"I'll go for a shower."
"Yes please," Kageyama says, wheezing, both for dramatics and because of his body oder. He's happier when Ryuunosuke comes out clean, smelling of pomegranate body wash. Tobio hugs him again, sighing deeply. "What's wrong?" Tanaka asks, arms resting loosely around his neck. "I don't know, I'm just tired I guess." He mumbles, walking away and into Tanakas bedroom.
Ryuunosuke follows after him, knowing that he needs to talk about his feelings.
When he walks in, Kageyama's lying on the floor, he gives a look of confusion, before shrugging and lying down next to him.
Tanaka holds his hand and runs his fingers over his knuckles. "Everything is so tiring. I'm so sick of living and being this person."
"What person?"
"I don't know, never mind." Tanaka looks at him, "No. Don't do that. Your feelings are important, tell me what you mean."Kageyama smiles at him, "I'm not like you, okay? I'm not like you or Hinata or Nishinoya. I'm not enthusiastic, constantly happy and energetic. I'm sarcastic, mean and blunt. I don't talk about my feelings, and I push anyone away that tries to help." Kageyama explains, watching the fan spin above them.
Tanaka leans closer, wiping away the tears that fall down his face. "I don't want you to be like anyone else, I like you just the way you are." Tobio laugh dryly at that.
"It's cheesy and cliche I know, but I mean it and you don't have to push everyone away." He frowns, glaring.
"I'm sorry. I just mean that you don't have to hide your feelings from me." Which, he knows is hypocritical. All Tobio needs is a friend, to confide in and feel safe with, yet here he is, crushing on him like a total idiot.
"You'll do the same thing, right?" Kageyama asks. "You'll tell me when something is wrong too? I'm not good at talking about my feelings, but it's easier if other people share with me."
'Yeah, I will. I like telling you things."
"I'm trying, you know that right?"
"Of course I do."Kageyama closes his eyes, "I want to enjoy my life more." He says in a monotone voice. "I don't know how to, I was never able to actually have fun and live, actually I've been stuck in a deep depression for a couple of years now."
"And I want to help you." Tobio looks at him, "I really do. It's not pity."
"I know, I appreciate it. This is the nicest thing anyone has actually done for me." He moved closer, until he's draped over him, face pressed against Ryuunosukes chest. The door opens, Saeko is standing there. "What the fuck are you doing? Why are you on the floor." She shakes her head, "Whatever, I'm bored, you wanna go somewhere?"
"Now? Do you know what the time is?" Ryuunosuke asks back. "Yeah, I'll go." Tobio answers, getting up and stretching.
Saeko looks at him, waiting for an answer. "Sure, whatever I'll go too." I
A couple minutes later they're in the car, both boys in their pajamas and sweatpants. Kageyama's sitting in the backseat, lying down with the window slightly open while Tanaka is curled up in the passenger seat, occasionally glancing at him.
"Where are we even going?" He asks and Saeko shrugs, "Dunno, thought it would be fun to go for a drive." She answers, "You didn't have to come you know?" then turns the radio up.
"Yeah, because it's creepy and I'm cold." Ryuunosuke says quietly, looking out the window.
Sometime goes by of quiet driving when she stops out at a gas station. "I wanna snack you guys want to come in?" She offers.
Tiredly, Kageyama lifts himself up and out of the car, shoving his hands in his pockets.
Tanaka gets out too and puts an arm around his shoulders and they lean against each other
They walk in like that, far too tired and cold to bother with letting go. They walk past a middle aged woman, who gives them a weird look, not that they notice.
"The fuck are you judging?" Saeko asks sharply, walking past him to grab her snacks and drinks.
"You don't want anything?" She says to Kageyama. "No 'm tired." He grumbles. "And cold."
"Did you even tell mom and dad?" She goes quiet. "Oh my god we're so screwed. They're gonna be so mad."He's right.
As soon as they'd rushed home, they found their parents waiting expectantly, looking into their eyes, unmoving.
Mei goes to say something, until she notices Tobio falling asleep on the spot. "You know what? It's late, just go to bed."
They nod and quickly walk off and into their rooms, where Kageyama collapsed onto the bed. Tanaka smiles and does the same thing.
"You're too nice to me." Kageyama tells him, yawning and cuddling up against him. "You say all this shit that makes me wanna kiss you."
Ryuunosukes shoot open, "Wait, what's you just say?" He nudges him, "Tobio, what's you just say?" It's too late, he'd already fallen asleep.
Unlike Tanaka, who's now thinking an rethinking about what he'd said, heart racing. Did he really mean that? Ot was that just late tiredness.
He really hopes it's the first option.
