My phone buzzed with passion as this time, my brother called, approaching the town's radius. It was a exciting and foreign experience to hear from the family.
It had been years since everyone had been here, especially by their own accord, so I was overjoyed to receive an email from his wife that they were coming down for his birthday. We agreed to make it a big celebration, inviting all of the family to join. Cecil was the first to answer and happily agreed to come, telling me about his travels with his girlfriend, doing charity drives and such.
Linnet and I talked frequently, which was new since Jerome married her. We hadn't had much time to talk since he married her and they'd only visited a couple times when the oldest was little.
Margaret took to her stepmother well as she described their relationship, along with a seemingly nice relationship with her younger siblings. She grew up so much, I could barely believe it.
Sojourner took a while to get back, but agreed, clearly trying her hardest not to segway to our brothers disappearance, the last time we'd really all been together for eachother. I could almost see her stroking her hair nervously, her pale but still mixed skin shivering with anxiety.
Lawrence was the opposite of her as I'd heard, never having met him. But whenever on the rare occasion that we talked, I could hear him comforting her in the background, which was reassuring.
She spent a while in a home after she left, our mom sending her away as she got weirder and weirder. She had been traumatized, and eventually Mama had enough. She became like him, and Mama didn't want to even think of him.
They said they'd come together, so I'd finally get to meet him.
Linnet's boys and Malakai were about the same age, so this event would certainly be noisy, with the combination of the babies, Linnet's baby and my own little Malik.Thankfully Malik had some self preservation, being just around 3, while the baby was around 1, but she had always said there was never enough girls in the house.
My husband gripped my shoulders gently as I told him about the current, his smug smile still on his face I imagined, eventually pressing kisses to my shoulders as he attempted to hush me.
"Baby baby.. they're coming to our house, I'm sure I'll hear all about it.."
I chuckled, knowing he'd grown impatient of my rambling and gently coaxed me onto a different ground.
"Ohhh, am I that annoying?"
"Yes, so much so."
He grinned, pressing me closer to his body as he continued, "Oh so annoying."
"Oh hush you."
I shot back, the amusement both obvious in our tones, and the smiles evident on our lips while we kissed.
"Sleep now Mrs. Annoy-"
"Greg hush your mouth."
"Make me."
"You're a real fool.."
The night rests in passion as my excitement keeps me awake, the moon shimmering through the window providing streaks of light around the room. My husband's arm pulls me closer as he sighs against the back of my neck, our bodies close enough that I feel his heartbeat against my back.
I drifted off listening to it, my finger gently tapping the covers to it while it darkened around me. Was it the moon or my eyes I don't know for sure.
