“Random attacks still plague Northern America.” the man said, his face composed into a serious look as he stared at the camera.
I sighed and switched off the television, then slumped back onto the sofa with another sigh. It had been a little over a year since Jay Weaver, the pure soul that housed the Final Seal to contain Evuhl had died, and Evuhl had broken free. It had been far too quiet since then, almost as if Evuhl were biding it's time. As the Angel of Death, I couldn't stand by idly, yet Evuhl was doing the very thing that made me have no choice but to stand by idly. I hated having to wait, but being Immortal, I had all the time in the world – however long that was.
My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a baby crying from behind me, and I jumped up and walked over to the twin moses baskets that were there and looked down with a gentle smile at my twins.
Teri and Jay were both three months old, and absolutely perfect. Teri was the boisterous one, always loud and screaming, whereas Jay was the quiet, well behaved one. Right now, Teri was crying for some food, so I picked her up and cradled her gently, going into the kitchen to get her bottle, when, right on cue, Jay started crying as well. They both got hungry round about the same time, slept at the same time and woke up at the same time. It was extraordinary to see sometimes.
At that moment, my beautiful wife, Melissa ran into the room, her windswept hair all over her face. She picked Jay up and gently soothed him and followed me back into the kitchen, where we both fed our children.
“How was work?” I asked.
Melissa had been working as a counsellor for several months now, and loved every minute of it.
“Don't even ask.” she muttered, looking tired.
“That bad, huh?”
“You don't know the half of it. I've had one client come in and all around him was this dark. . .mass of negativity that he'd carried with him. Anyone with the tiniest bit of psychic power could see it, plain as day. Then he starts telling me about his past, and the next thing I know, he's groping me and all over me!”
“Groping you?” I said sharply. No one groped my wife!
“Yes, groping me, grabbing my breasts and trying to put his hand down my skirt.”
“What did you do?” I asked, quietly seething at how low some mortals went.
“I slapped him and knocked him out with a psychic push, then cleared all the negativity off him and walked out, leaving someone else to deal with him. After that, it was the usual kids with worries about their problems at school and stuff.”
“What was his name?” I asked casually, handing Teri to her.
“Why?” she asked, juggling Jay to one arm while taking Teri in the other.
“Oh. . .no reason.”
“Tobias. . .” she said warningly. “Don't you go hunting him down like you did that poor butcher.”
“How was I to know that he grabbed your leg by accident?” I protested. I wasn't jealous, I just didn't like it when men tried coming onto Melissa when she was so clearly taken.
Melissa merely tutted and shook her head, handing me Jay to hold for a while, while she cuddled her youngest daughter.
Soon, Harvey and Brad came home from school. They were both eighteen now, and had finally managed to stay in a school without demons attacking long enough to make friends and get good grades.
Brad was a big, muscular eighteen year old, with broad shoulders and chest, and huge arms. He looked more like a bodybuilder than an eighteen year old, but that was mostly due to the fact that he was the only Golem in existence who could say they were half human. His Golem half gave him incredible strength and stamina, as well as a very impressive physique. He was also very bright, although he could seem dumb at times, and often had no tact of which to speak, but he was one of the kindest people I knew.
