Iris POV
Eleven hours later, we're sitting in Officer Steve Tomlinsons house as we wait for my dad to arrive, I can't wait to be on a plane for the first time, while my mother on the other hand is petrified of it. She's always expressed her blatant dislike for planes and, well I guess she's a scaredy cat.
Scaredy cat. That's a new word that Niall Payne taught me today, it's probably going to be my favourite word ever... well, other than Loser because that's what Niall is, a sore loser. He called me a scaredy cat when I refused to play a game called Monopoly with him because I didn't know what it as, but I beat him anyway. Mama said it's because I have my dads genes but I wouldn't know, all I know is that I'm fucking talented.
In the time we've been here, Niall taught me the basics of a phone, and I can't see why people like the thing so much.
Maybe it's because they have people to talk to.
Okay, that was a little uncalled for.
But it's true.
Shut up.
Currently, everyone is having a nap but I'm too wide awake to even consider one.
Probably 'cuz your lazy ass slept for so long in the day.
You realise we're the same person, right?
....
Thought so.
Suddenly, the phone next to me starts ringing and I make a mental note to thank Niall for teaching me how to answer the damned thing.
"Hello?" I greet.
"Iris, Hi, would you mind telling me where exactly you guys are?"
"Oh, dad, sure... Let me just wake someone who knows up."
"Okay, so, what have you been up to the whole day?"
"Hmm, well since the officers came to us, one of them, Niall taught me new words and how to play monopoly, mum says I definitely have your genes in me because I won without knowing how to actually play, then Niall taught me how to use a phone... or well what he said are the basics of it and that's why I managed to answer the phone now, also I baked a cake by choice for the first time ever it's so fun when you're doing things for fun and not because you have to, you know? I think there's a lot of things I want to try doing now since I just can do them for no reason at all." I think I spoke too much, Niall says it's called rambling. I call it the thing I do because I haven't had the option of speaking so much before.
"Wow, you had a busy day."
"Mhm, I did, what about you?"
"Well, I basically woke up, made breakfast, did paperwork and then got your mothers phone call so I rushed here but I mostly just slept the entire flight here."
"Do you like flying, dad?" I asked.
"Yes, unlike your mother I find it to be relaxing." He replies in a funny tone that I don't know how to describe.
It is only then that I remember I'm supposed to be finding out the address of this place. So, I walk over to the sofa mi mama is sleeping on and tap her lightly, careful not to startle her.
"Yes, fiore?" She asks tiredly, her eyes still closed.
"Dad is asking where we are."
"Oh, we're in a house on 57 Armstrong Avenue." (y'all ik the street name is real but the actual address is anyone's guess 💀)
I nod, telling my mother to go back to sleep, a request of mine that she promptly follows before I repeat the address to my father.
"Okay, Iris, I'm on my way. I'll see you soon, moy angel." He cuts the call and I can't help but feel a burst of excitement. I'm going to meet my dad for the first time. I know that he knew me before, but I never knew him so to me, it's my first time meeting him and I can't wait.
Ten minutes later, a knock sounds on the front door and suddenly my nerves creep up on me. What if he doesn't like me?
I roll my eyes at my thoughts, deciding it would be better to not think about ridiculous things that are out of my control before I rush off and open the door.
Tears pool in my eyes as I take in the man standing before me, Viktor, my father is standing right in front of me with the brightest smile I've ever seen.
"Can I hug you, Iris?" He asks, not bothering to say hello.
I respond by nodding my head slowly, a little terrified since I've never really had much contact with anyone before now. Almost immediately, I'm pulled into the comforting embrace of my father. At first, I'm stiff as a board before I find myself slowly relaxing.
Somehow, this is the safest I've ever felt, and while that scares me just a little bit, I think it's a good thing too. Maybe this won't be too bad.
A few moments later, we pull away from the hug when my mum finally pops out of nowhere and immediately runs toward my father and wraps her arms around him.
Dad's face goes from surprised to relieved in a the span of a split second, and immediately his arms wrap tightly around my mother's tiny frame.
For a second, I think I see a tear fall out of my father's eye but as soon as I see it, it's gone and I almost think I imagine it.
After a minute or two, my parents pull away from each other and my father places a swift kiss onto the crown of my mother's head and then he looks at us and worry overtakes his features, I don't blame him; my mother and I both have bruises on our faces as well as on our bodies, and dad looks like he's going to say something before Officers Payne and Tomlinson finally make themselves known.
"Hello, my name is Officer Niall Payne and this is my partner, Kevin Tomlinson. It's nice to meet you Mr Romanov." Niall introduces, sticking his hand out to my father who immediately takes it.
"Thank you, Officers for finding my wife and daughter. I don't think that words are enough to express my gratitude, but thank you once again." Dad says, his voice thick with emotion that conveys how thankful he truly is.
The officers nod in acknowledgement, and then it's time to leave, time to go home and meet those who my mother holds dearest to her heart.
Everything will be fine, right?
