June 16th, Sunday
Nick paces back and forth in front of the window, he's been doing this for the past hour. Ben sits on the top bunk of my bed, his legs swinging back and forth; it seems childish, but I know it's because he's nervous. Harper sits on her bed, trying to get her phone to work; if anyone can it's her. Bri sits on her bunk, comforter wrapped around her; of course it's her comforter from home. Her bed looks all nice, because she brought all of her bedding. My bed looks scarce in comparison. Flynn and Sebastien sit side by side on Gwen's bed, but none of us have the heart to tell them. Rachel and Lilyth sit on their top bunk; Lilyth seems tired still and doesn't seem to have fully processed what's happened.
"No matter where we go, I can't get away from death," Lilyth mutters, her head leaning against Rachel, who gives her a concerned look. I want to ask what she means, but I decide against it. No point in making enemies at a time like this.
"It's been an hour," Bri groans, leaning over her bed to stare at Harper's phone, "I am starved."
"I'm sure Director Lockewood will get back to us soon," Nick tells her.
"I'll poke my head out," Lilyth says, climbing down her bunk before we can stop her. We watch silently as Lilyth opens the door, her head disappearing into the hall before her. We wait until she pops her head back in, "Nothing. It's so quiet out there too."
"I'm sure everyone is scared shitless," Harper sighs, tossing her phone behind her onto the pillow.
"I'm assuming you couldn't get it to work?" I ask.
"No," She groans, putting her head in her hands.
Nick lets out an irritated noise, finally stopping and staring out the window. I walk over to him, putting a hand on his shoulder, and looking out the window with him; lots of trees. Sighing, he turns to me, taking my hands in his.
"I wish there was something we could do," He says quietly.
"Me too," I nod, "and what sucks is I didn't bring the knife."
"The knife?" Lilyth perks up, "You still have the antler knife?"
"Yes, but I didn't bring it," My eyes glance over to her and I give her an apologetic look.
"How are we going to take them down?" Nick asks.
"If it is even them," Ben points out.
"It has to be," Bri shakes her head.
"It could just be a regular psychopath," Rachel says, "Or just someone who hated Gwen."
"Gwen was so nice," Bri pouts, "I doubt she had many enemies."
There's a knock at our door causing all of us to jump. Lilyth climbs down from her bunk again and slowly opens the door. She sighs, opening it all the way, when she sees that it's Parker.
"Any news?" She asks him.
"Yes, breakfast," Parker says rather shortly, his eyes find mine, "Meet down in the lobby and stick together."
I nod to him, "Thanks." He walks away and Lilyth shuts the door. She turns back around, her blue eyes finding mine.
"What now?" Lilyth asks, but it's directed at me.
"Now, we go down to the lobby, and we stay alert. We can't trust anyone," I tell her and the rest of my friends, "Anyone could be the killer."
"How can we trust each other?" Rachel asks, climbing down from the bunks.
"I've been with my friends for a very long time," I reply, "I trust them, but I don't know the two of you. However, I am going to trust you to an extent, but you shouldn't just trust us off the bat either, you know?"
"Smart," Lilyth nods, "Beware of everyone outside of this room, but also don't get comfortable with each other."
"Exactly," Nick nods, "We have to be very careful in order to survive. Especially if it is the Skeleton."
"What if there's more than one again?" Bri asks, straightening her shirt as she climbs down from her bunk.
"Always assume there's more than one," I respond.
Lilyth grins slightly, "You really are prepared."
"I've done this a couple times."
. . . . .
The nine of us make our way into the very filled lobby. I pull my group into a back corner, slightly separated from everyone. Better to be away from the crowd; you could easily be killed in a cluster of people. Lilyth seems to be watching my every choice with a growing interest.
"Once you get to Greyton I'd say not to come back here," I joke with her, "That way you won't ever have to worry about this kind of thing again."
"Oh you have no idea," Lilyth snorts, "I'm just glad that there's a better leader this time."
"What do you mean?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowing.
"Don't worry about it," Rachel shakes her head, "It's a whole thing."
"Okay, I've talked to the staff and we've come to a decision," Director Lockewood says, pulling my attention away from Lilyth and Rachel, "We'll be letting rooms out to eat in the cafeteria, but only a couple of rooms at a time. You'll be going by your camp grouping."
"Shit," I mutter under my breath. We're being split up. Out of the corner of my eye I can see my friends give each other shaky looks. Nick takes my hand in his and gives it a squeeze. It's supposed to be reassuring, but it doesn't feel so reassuring.
"Everyone will stay in the lobby, except for the chosen groups," Director Lockewood continues, "The first two groups to be grabbing breakfast will be the Eager Beavers and the Outstanding Octopus."
Rachel gives Lilyth a hug before she reluctantly joins her group. Lilyth gives me a worried look, before watching Rachel walk away with her group. Harper's breath leaves quickly and she looks faint. Bri gives her a tight hug and I give her sympathetic look before she joins her own group.
"The first of us to go," Ben mutters, "I'm sure they'll be fine."
"They better be fine," Lilyth growls lowly, "Or there will be hell to pay."
