eventually, you hung out with madi while matt slowly drifted away to say hi to everyone else. you noticed a girl talking to him but knew to keep your mouth shut. you're the one that reminded matt you two aren't dating.

the girl that was talking to him now reminded you of his ex he dated in high school. that girl was crazy, but this one didn't seem like it. she was pretty, of course. these girls are the ones that lower your confidence slightly when you see them. the ones that reminded you that you aren't matt's type.

matt stumbles over to you, a little tipsy from the drinks, and starts to talk.

"what?" you say, unable to hear over the loud music. he leans into your ear and repeats himself.

"i said you look very pretty," he says with a smug smile as he backs away.

"aw, thanks matt." you smile, he can very much see your blushing although he's buzzed. "are you doing okay?" you ask.

"yeah, i'm more worried about you." he says, leaning down a little so you can hear him again.

"me? why? i'm fine," you reassure him.

"i just know that you don't know anyone here, i kinda dragged you along with us, i'm sorry-"

"don't be sorry, matt." you say, grabbing his forearm. "you didn't drag me here, i wanted to come here." you say with a small smile. "i don't know anyone here, i feel a little out of place but i have you, i'm okay." you say. matt blushes and smiles at your comment.

"you do have me," he says.

"i do?" you raise your eyebrows and smile wider.

"yep," he says proudly. "wanna get another drink?" he asks.

"oh, i haven't been drinking." you explain. "i have to drive, remember?"

"oh yeah... one drink is fine though," he shrugs. "it's not a big deal,"

"well i prefer not to if i'm the designated driver. plus, i'm even more underage than you." you say with a giggle.

"i always forget you're younger than me." he laughs.

"that's hard to believe." you say as you give him a look.

"why?" he crosses his arms.

"you reminded me every day for like five years straight," you laugh.

"i'm sorryyy"

"i'm not looking for an apology, i just think it's funny." you giggle.

"i just feel bad-"

"don't." you say, looking into his eyes. they don't look the same. his eyes look tired and red, it will be time to go soon. "don't feel bad." you smile. "past is the past. we're here now,"

"true, i'm glad i never lost you," he says. you have no idea where all this emotion and confessing is coming from, but you don't mind.

"you would never lose me, matt." you say. "are you ready to go soon? you look really tired-"

"are you tired? we can go if you're ready, i'll go get nick and chris and madi-" he says quickly.

"matt, relax." you giggle. "i'll leave whenever you're ready,"

"are you sure?" he asks. when you nod, he reassures you that he'll be ready in about fifteen minutes. you tell him that's fine, and since you lost madi, you sit on the couch with some water while you wait.
