He froze, "Yeah? Hello?"
Luca stopped immediately and watched intently. Meanwhile, two fellow officers walked by them, one of them waved at Luca, who quickly nodded back. Immediately after both had gone by, he returned his attention back to his friend. Street didn't even flinch, as he focused on the call.
"Ok, ok. Is she better? Is she ok now?" Luca heard Street ask.
The younger officer took a deep breath and ran his free hand through his hair nervously. He turned his back to Luca, trying to hide his nervousness. As he stared at a foliage in front of the building, he listened closely. Silence.
Luca couldn't move, trying to focus solely on his friend and the phone call.
"Ok. Yes, um..." Street mumbled, "My flight is scheduled to arrive there at six thirty am on Saturday, for our meeting at nine like I was told-"
Silence.
"Uh huh...oh my! I'm -I'm" he paused, silence, "Ok, ok" he paused and sighed, "I'm not- Alright. Ok."
Silence.
"Urgently?"
Silence.
Not something I wanted to hear!, Luca lamented, as he looked around, trying to hide the fact that he was leaning his ear closer to the younger officer.
"Ok. Let me...um...speak to my boss. I'll...um...ok...ok..."
Silence.
"No, no!" Street responded eagerly. "I will be there. I will speak to my boss. I will be there. Yes. Understood. "
Silence.
"Yes. Friday."
Silence.
"Yes. Fifth floor, Neurosurgical Department. Yes. Nine Am. Yes, sir. Yes."
Silence.
"Thank you" he said, slowly pulling the phone away from his face.

Sigh. He turned to Luca with a defeated look, not knowing how to proceed. The older officer had an idea it was bad news, so he wasn't going to ask and put his friend through the torture of it again... at least not all of it!
"Street! Breathe, man. She's gonna be ok." Luca said softly.
Street just nodded his head slowly and took a deep breath. He placed his phone back into his pocket and stared at afar.
"Listen!" Luca called, snapping Street back. He continued quickly. "Let me worry about Hicks. I'll talk to him. You talk with Rubio, ok? I can't stay with the kid, since Dana mapped out a whole recovery thing this weekend for me. Says it'll boost up my energy and help my spine. But-"
Street placed his hand out to stop him, and quickly blurted. "It's ok. I'll talk with Hicks."
"No, really. I helped him solve an issue with one of the bosses downtown, so...he kinda owes me one. I'll make sure to come back on Friday and help the team, even if it's not in the field...from base."
"Luca-"
"Hey!" he interrupted, placing a stern hand on Street's shoulder. "Bro, you worry about Chris! She needs you!"
Street shook his head and bowed his head momentarily. "She went into respiratory arrest this morning. They had to amp up her oxygen."
"She's struggling. Whatever the doctors want to talk to you about, it's urgent. You gotta be there, Street. She'd want you there."Luca added eagerly.
