"Hi, Mom"I place the phone between my ear and shoulder. Dragging my suitcase off the conveyor belt. Why is it so goddamn heavy?
"Yes, everything went smoothly"
Riiiiiight, I packed everything I own.
"Yeah, I'm trying to get out of this place"
I set the suitcase down and held my phone against my ear. I look around at every sign, trying to read my way out of here. My Korean is not as good as I would have wanted it to be but I can speak and understand it so I'm doing alright by myself. Thank you Mom for forcing me to take those Korean classes in middle school.
"No, I'm trying to find my way out of this airport".
My mom is 100% Korean and my dad is like 50-50 Australian and Korean so I'm a mixed child. I look up at a sign and read it out loud for Mom to hear.
"That means Toilet" I let out a laugh. "I know Mom"
My heart drops and I turn my head towards the noise after hearing the most ear-deafening scream. "Honey? Are you okay? Kim Hanna, what is happening?" My Mom screams in my ear. I look around and see a bunch of people screaming and holding up their phones. "I don't know Mom, I think a celebrity is here or something. A bunch of people are screaming and taking photos" A sigh of relief sounds through my phone. "That scared me, I thought something happened to you". "No need to worry Mom, I'm okay." I smile "But I have to go now, I'll call you when I'm at the apartment. Love you" My eyes not leaving the scene. "Love you too honey, take care, and no funny business" I hang up the phone and slide it into my back pocket.
Should I go over there? Maybe it's someone I know. What if it's stray kids or something? I perk my ears, trying to catch a name. "Jiwoong!!!" A girl screams. Not a name I recognize. I walk a bit closer trying to get a glimpse of them. But suddenly they take a right turn, walking in my direction. I hear another scream "Ricky!" I can now confirm I've never in my life heard these names so I clearly don't know them. I better get out of here before I get eaten up by the fans.
I walk towards the exit, following the arrows. "실례합니다!" (excuse me!) I look up at the signs making sure I'm going the right way. "실례합니다!" (excuse me!) I turn around when I feel a hand on my shoulder. I look at the hand, following the arm up the shoulder and then I see the face. The face belongs to a man and let me tell you he's gorgeous. His face is slim and his jaw sharp. His skin is like snow and his lips are plum. My eyes meet his, they're brown, not hazle but like the night, almost black. "You dropped this" He switched from Korean to English, maybe he could tell that I'm not from here. He holds my phone in his hand. In shock, I touch my back pocket, it's not there. I must have dropped it trying to put it there. I look around now noticing all the people surrounding us. And our eyes meet again. "Ricky" a girl screams. "Ricky oppa" another one. I think I'm staring at a celebrity right now. He holds his hand out silently telling me to take the phone and of course I do. "Thank you" I say. "No problem" He gives me a small smile. I give one back. He snickers before walking past me. My eyes follow him without my permission. The fans ran after him leaving me standing there alone.
I shake my head and scratch my head. That didn't happen right. I was daydreaming just now, right? Nah that definitely did not happen. Let's not. Yeah. let's just not. I fish my AirPods out of my bag and listen to my K-crap playlist. I walk out of the airport with my suitcase, I've already sent down my other stuff here so I guess they will arrive sometime this week. But the bed that I bought will be at the apartment by 6 today so I have about 2 hours until then. I walk up the first taxi I see and let it take me to my new home.
