Prologue

3rd POV

"So, mister Y/n, I've had a nice long look at your resume. I see you're quite the prodigy making it through classes that would take most people years in a matter of a few months, while you didn't ace them you still did an amazing job I would have to say. Your family is quite an interesting aspect too if I do say so myself, it's rather unusual an heir to a big company would even consider this line of work, let alone go for it and go through with it, so if I may ask, what's the reason?"

Y/n: "Ehh, that is quite a question sir Otto, I am not sure myself, while I do think that job would fit me and my personality more, I always found this kind of life more... Fulfilling? Yes I believe that would be the correct word..."

Otto: "Fulfilling? What is it that you find so fulfilling about the position of captain?"

Y/n: "I suppose the aspect of getting to help people in one way or another, getting to connect with the crew and my comrades are fulfilling in their own way, but it also lets me travel the world and meet all kinds of people doing different jobs and from different backgrounds far better than doing a cushy job running a big healthcare products company ever could."

Otto: "And tell me, why do you wish to connect with your crew?"

Y/n: "It's embarrassing to admit, but I didn't have any friends growing up, even now I basically don't have any."

Otto: "So you're taking this job to make friends?"

Y/n: "No, it's so people will look at me differently and my parents will let me be."

Otto looked at the young man with a slightly puzzled expression, pondering over the young man's choices in terms of occupation as a way to escape his parents.

Y/n: "I've never gotten close to people, because my parents always said "they're just gonna use you for your money" and most people dodged me because I was in their eyes just another spoiled rich kid who doesn't know no and never had to struggle for anything. I want people to know me because I'm the captain of a battle ship of Schicksal or a Valkyrie squad, not because I'm an heir." He said proudly with a fire in his eyes that told the blonde haired man in front of him that the young man wouldn't buckle before any challenge.

Otto: "You still haven't really answered my question you know?" He said as the young man nearly sank into his chair.

Y/n: "A-Ah, my apologies, I did go on a slight tangent hehe *clears throat* So um yeah, I believe that for people to work together well, they have to understand eachother, the best way to understanding eachother is to know eachother which is exactly why I believe getting to know your comrades is crucial to success on the battle field, because at the end of the day, who'd you rather have watching your back, a friend or a stranger."

Otto: "Alright, I believe that will be all, this interview is over." He said standing up with a smile on his face.

"Huh that's it?"

Otto: "You're in, I'll send you the necessary information and files by the end of the day, I recommend you pack because we will be expecting you at work around noon tomorrow and officially, I as overseer welcome you Y/n Sato to Schicksal as the newly dubbed captain of the Hyperion." The man said sticking his hand out for a handshake as a confused and utterly shocked Y/n meekly took his offer and shook his hand.

Y/n: "T-That's it?"

Otto: "Mhm, we made a mistake last time and hired purely on academic results rather than on personality, which led to, let's call them complications, some of which you may still feel to this day but you won't know for certain until tomorrow will you?"

Y/n: "Wait so was that supposed to be like a test or something or?"

Otto: "If you want to call it that, then yes I suppose it was a sort of test." He nodded as he got ready to leave. "Now, I'll be seeing you tomorrow and I recommend you get a good night's sleep, you'll need it for what's to come."
