Natasha had tried extremely hard not to freak out after the attack at the World Cup.

After all, Hailey had been fine. Mr. Weasley and the Minister of Magic had written to her assuring her that Hailey's safety was their topmost priority so she decided to maintain her calm.

But now, she couldn't.

Steve and Natasha had been summoned to the school because Hailey's name had been pulled out of the Goblet of Fire to compete in the Triwizard Tournament.

Several teachers, including the headmaster himself, were in the room with Hailey when she arrived. Hailey ran up to Natasha and hugged her immediately.

"Hailey, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Dumbledore asked calmly.

"No, Sir. I did not," Hailey replied.

"Perhaps, Potter got an older student to submit her name. After all, the idea of not getting all the glory this year must have eaten her alive," Snape snarled.

"If she says she didn't do it, then she didn't," Steve snapped back.

"Hogwarts already has a champion, Hailey doesn't need to compete. Besides if the age restriction is 17, she can not compete," Natasha reasoned.

Dumbledore looked pensive and thought for a long moment before he replied. He looked at her through his half-moon spectacles and the twinkle in his bright blue eyes was gone, instead, there was...pity?

"If Hailey's name has been picked out of the Goblet of Fire, she must compete," Dumbledore said with a tone of finality.

"But Professor, she is two little. It is too dangerous," Professor McGonagall argued. Madame Maxine and Karkaroff piped in going on about how it was unfair Hogwarts got to have two champions and so on. Moody entered the conversation and spun theories about how somebody had likely done it to kill or maim Hailey. Snape maintained an even look of disgust and malice but spoke no further.

"But I do not understand," Natasha said. "She is underage even by Wizarding standards,"

"My dear, there is a binding magical contract that obliges any Champion to compete," Dumbledore explained the complexities of it and even after reasoning, Natasha had no choice but to allow Hailey to compete.

Hailey said goodbye to Steve and Natasha miserably as McGonagall led them to Floo back home.

Hailey was announced the fourth champion to the rest of the school and was taken into a separate room with the champions and their headmasters to be given instructions for the first task which was supposed to test their daring. The only good part that came out of this was that they did not have to write end-of-the-term exams.

Hailey glanced at Cedric, who nodded, and they left together. Despite how much Ron liked to poke at Cedric, Hailey thought he was quite cute. The Great Hall was deserted now; the candles had burned low, giving the jagged smiles of the pumpkins an eerie, flickeringquality.

"So," said Cedric, with a slight smile. "We're playing against eachother again!"

"I s'pose," said Hailey. She really couldn't think of anything tosay. The inside of her head seemed to be in complete disarray, asthough his brain had been ransacked.

"So . . . tell me . . ." said Cedric as they reached the entrancehall, which was now lit only by torches in the absence of the Goblet of Fire. "How did you get your name in?"

"I didn't," said Hailey, staring up at him. "I didn't put it in. I wastelling the truth."

"Ah . . . okay," said Cedric. Hailey could tell Cedric didn't believe her.
