Not a very cheerful chapter, I'm sorry.

Peeta Mellark. Your heart dropped as you heard the name you were dreading to be called. No, this couldn't be happening you thought. The quick relief you had felt after your name hadn't been called had been completely toppled over by Katniss' volunteering. And now this.

Your body enable to move, your eyes followed him as he stumbled to the front of the square and was pushed up to the stage.

He was welcomed by Effie Trinket with her aberrant look and finally, as he faced the crowd, his eyes found yours. Gazing deep into these soft sad eyes you knew too well, you felt a tear slip down your face. Soon enough, your cheeks were damp as you were unable to control the incessant flow that came from your eyes. Yet you stood straight, aware of your total lack of ..power over this situation. There was nothing you could do to save him.

After the anthem and the anual speech were finished, Katniss and Peeta were taken away. The crowd hadn't had time to move but you were running.

You rushed towards Peeta's family and when his dad took you in his arms, hugging you tightly as you let the sobs rush through your body. His mother and brother stood still, their faces facing the ground, stunned.

The Peacekeepers quickly encircled you and you let them guide you towards the place where you would see the boy you loved for the last time.

His family were the first people to be let in. Your mind was abnormally quiet during the few minutes you were left alone to wait. The polished floor and quiet hallway didn't bring you any comfort. Finally, when the family exited the room, you leaped up from your seat and pushed the heavy oak door.

Peeta was standing next to the window, looking at the district he was likely to never see again. The trace of tears striped his face. When he saw you he opened his arms and you ran into them, almost knocking him over as you embraced him.

Your tears were back and they dampened his shirt. For a brief moment, the two of you just stood together, embracing one another. Peeta broke the silence first.

"I love you."

Your head darts up and his brown eyes are no longer crying.

"I know it may seem dumb to tell you this now, but I truly do." he continued and with his finger wiped away your tears. "And I'll be thinking of you every second you know, even if... it's not mutual."

"Of course I love you too Peeta!" you exclaimed and your lips crashed into his.

The kiss was passionate yet full of despair and you could feel the salty taste of your mingled tears on your lips. You pulled away gently and looked him in the eyes, trying to control your overwhelming emotions, for his sake.

"Promise me you'll fight. That you won't give up. I know you've got a chance." you whispered.

"I promise I will." he replied, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you closer to his body.

You took his face in your hands and caressed his cheek with your finger, your eyes roaming his face and memorising its every little detail.

He leaned in and kissed you once again, this time with a sweetness that moved you from within. The softness of his skin contrasted with the vigour of his ask on you. He held on to you knowing that this was probably the last time he would get the chance to.

With a slam of the door, the peacekeepers told you it was time for you to leave.

"I love you Peeta." you blurted out as the armed men dragged you out.

"I won't give up on you Y/n." you heard him say before the door slammed shut.
