Author's POV:
Months passed, and the cool winter breeze started to shape the short, cold days. Nidha's days had been passing taking care of fragile Ginny, her special condition making the days feel short. Pregnancy was already hard enough with the drastic changes a body makes to produce a life. She wanted to make sure Ginny felt cherished and taken care of during her pregnancy journey. She daily took care of Ginny's physical as well as mental health.
"Biwi! Biwi!" Vyom's voice echoed throughout the mansion.
Nidha quickly put down her stethoscope while taking Ginny's blood pressure. "Oldie, I'm over here!" She responded while cleaning up the room.
Vyom ran into Ginny's room, picked up Nidha, and spun her around in circles.
"Oh god! Put me down!" Nidha flailed in his arms. She pressed her hands onto his cheeks and delivered a big sloppy kiss on his forehead.
Vyom finally stopped spinning her and put her back down on the ground, Nidha grabbed onto him for balance. "Kiddo live life a little. Can't you see how excited I am??"
Nidha looked over at Ginny who shook her head while laughing. She too shook her head at her husband who had clearly turned into a 5-year-old. "Chalo, bhabhi ko aaram karne do." She dragged Vyom out by his tie. (Lets go, let Ginny rest.)'
Back in their room, Vyom was undoing his tie and washing up. "Kiddo?" Vyom called out to Nidha who was getting clothes out from her wardrobe.
"Hm," She responded.
"Can you believe it, tonight is Dev and Pihu Bhabhi's baby shower? I can't control my excitement!" Vyom's words came out like a small kid on his birthday, happiness visible on his face.
"Of course I am Vyom! My Di is going to have a baby, how can I not be happy?" Nidha too joined in on his excitement.
"The baby's going to be so loved you know? Dev's going to shower it with all the love he's been deprived of and Bhabhi is going teach him how to be respectful and kind just like her." Vyom's eyes glistened as his heart expanded for his friend.
Nidha dropped her clothes on the bed and gave Vyom a reassuring hug. "My Di is going to be a great mom. She's raised me with such nurture and care, she's going to shower so much love on her child." She went back to her wardrobe. "And you watch, I am going to be such a better aunt than you.
Vyom chuckled at her friendly fire. "They truly are like our Ram and Sita," Vyom said.
"They really are," Nidha replied.
_____
Nidha and Vyom had quickly gotten ready and showed up at Dev and Pihu's house early.
"Vyom? Baccha? Is that you?" Pihu called out from her room.
As she came down the stairs, Dev and Vyom stared at her in awe.
"Boys shut your mouths, my Di always looks stunning." Nidha smiled as she ran towards Pihu and engulfed her in a big hug. Both felt like it had been ages since they had met each other.
"Bhabhi, is someone walking behind you with a light? Because I don't know how someone could be glowing so much." Vyom greeted her and placed a gentle kiss on Pihu's cheek.
"Enough! Don't get nazar on my Di." Nidha rolled her eyes at Vyom's jokes. She moved her finger to the corner of her eye and smudged a bit of her eyeliner behind Pihu's ears. "There now no bad eye can affect you."
"God all of you are too much! Let's go see the event planning and check on the food." Pihu motioned towards the yard.
"Pihu don't you dare move. At least, on your own baby shower, don't try to control everything dear." Dev holds onto Pihu's shoulder and makes her sit on the couch. "You ladies relax here, we will go and check."
"Jiju is right Di, it's YOUR baby shower. Chill." Nidha joins her sister on the couch and assures her.
The boys leave to go and check on the decoration and Nidha sits with Pihu.
"Nidha... Baccha, you're happy right?" Pihu grabs Nidha's hand and turns towards her. "I feel like I've completely forgotten about you with all this baby stuff. Please tell me, are you happy?"
Nidha smiled at her sister reassuringly. "Di, I know in my heart you will never forget me. And yes, I am happy. Vyom..." Just the mention of Vyom's name made Nidha's cheeks turn a rosy hue and her pupils expanded. "Vyom treats me so nicely. He respects me and loves me a lot. His day starts with me and ends right next to me. and truthfully, so does mine."
Seeing her younger cousin so in love, made Pihu genuinely happy. "I am glad, but I still worry. You know the way your marriage happened..." Pihu's voice trailed off at the mention of such a dark day. Since that day her aunt and uncle have never once uttered Nidha's name nor will they hear it be mentioned. In the happenings of that day, many relationships were formed and many were severed.
Nidha too had noticed the absence of her parents at Pihu's baby shower. They partially blamed Pihu for what had happened during her wedding with Jatin.
"Yes Di, I know it didn't happen in the best situation, but my wedding with Vyom is one of the best things that's happened to me." Although her wedding day had been horrible, it was the day she gained Vyom and to Nidha, no day mattered more. "For the first time in my life, I feel valued Di, I feel like I have a true support system." A single tear escaped her eyes as she talked.
"Well, then I'm glad you've found your soulmate. Vyom is such a gentleman." Pihu carefully wiped Nidha's tears.
Soon the function had begun with a full force. there was dancing, food, and ceremonies.
The function started with a godh bharai ceremony, where the mother-to-be's lap is filled with various things and tokens of good luck.
Dev and Pihu's mother and Nidha worked together and placed a coconut, uncooked rice, and various fruits onto Pihu's lap.
Then came a ritual where the mother colored her husband's younger brother's cheeks with kumkum colors.
"Bhabhi don't hit me hard," Vyom said as he stepped up to the stage.
Pihu playfully hit Vyom and Vyom returned the favor. Pihu then took some leftover color and spread the red color on Nidha's cheeks.
"What's this for?" Nidha inquired.
"They say, the person colored with the kumkum is likely to get pregnant next." An aunty from the crowd yelled out.
The auntie's words made a blush creep onto Nidha's face which was somehow redder than the vermillion on her cheeks. She looked up at Vyom who winked at her, causing her to break out into a smile.
Soon the dances started and first up were the couple's parents who danced on Gallan Goodiyan.
The next was a face-off between Vyom and Nidha along with Shraddha, DJ, and a couple of Dev's friends.
Their dance soon finished and the party songs started. Nidha couldn't help but find herself in Vyom's arms. The night had been long and another gave her more solace than her home. Vyom.
As she stepped off the dance floor, she noticed 4 missed calls from Ginny on her phone. Worried, she immediately went off to the house and called Ginny.
"Hello??" Nidha asked into the phone as soon as it connected.
"Nidha... help..." A small voice called out on the receiving side.
Precap: Nidha rushes home.
Oh no! Something has happened! What do you think it is?
