Walden glanced at the Commander, his eyes reflecting a mix of anticipation and concern. "How far to the next room?" He inquired, his gaze scanning the dimly lit hallways.
"A few more steps to the main point...
We won't be catching ourselves a single break until we find something valuable for this so-called weapon we need...
I know one thing: it's not good."
The Commander stated with a sense of gravity.
They reached a door marked with a bold plaque reading "Computer Lab."
The Commander nodded, signaling the team to gather on the side with rifles at the ready.
His arm raised, a wave initiated the move.
Stepping back, he delivered a powerful kick to the door, causing it to fall off its hinges.
Silence greeted them as they stormed into the room, disappointment evident on their faces.
It seemed deserted, devoid of any signs of recent activity.
"What the hell is going on..." Muttered a teammate, confusion etched across their face.
The team dispersed, scouring the room for any clues or valuable information.
"The place looks empty to me.
Are we sure we came at the right time?"
A team member questioned the Commander, skepticism growing as they examined the room.
The Commander, lost in thought, hadn't encountered an operation this seemingly straightforward turning into such a complex situation before.
"Commander, the computers..." A team member called out, drawing attention to an unexpected issue.
"What of it?" The Commander inquired.
"There's no connection. The server's down. Even half of the computers here are smashed and shot — there's no point in rechecking or rebooting." The team member reported.
"'Smashed and shot?' Are you telling us that someone was here before us?
Is that why there are more of those automated bots than actual people?"
Another member chimed in, concern evident in their voice.
The Commander's stern expression deepened.
"We need to proceed with caution. If someone was here, they might have left traps or set up a diversion.
Stay vigilant, and keep your eyes peeled. We're not alone in this."
The team had exerted their utmost effort, scouring every inch of the building in search of a clue about the broken computers and the elusive Lightbane relic.
Following the commander's instructions, the rest of the team had spread out to investigate various floors, each member assigned a specific role.
Despite their collective expertise, the mystery persisted, leaving them frustrated and on the verge of giving up.
One tired teammate approached the commander, frustration evident in their voice."Commander, we've been at it for hours, and we can't find a single piece of evidence or any trail leading to the relic or those broken computers.
It's like they vanished out of thin air."
The commander, engrossed in the surveillance computer's display, sighed and glanced over his shoulder.
He empathized with the exhausted state of his team.
They had tirelessly searched for two hours, and some members were now dozing off at the table.
The commander decided to address the team's weariness.
