I want to give him a good impression, maybe we could be friends. The student had a gray hoodie on. His stretched ear lobe caught my attention. He had a few piercings on the ear, but nothing more. That was unusual, I thought the school didn't tolerate tattoos and such? Ceara does have a tattoo on her arse, though...
"A new student, eh?" I heard Arie snicker by the lockers. She didn't say it in an ominous manner, more like a playful manner between a toddler and a babysitter.
"Looks pretty cute! Who'll get'im first?" said one of her ecstatic friends.
After that statement, dozens of perfectly manicured hands sprung up in the air, followed by a few giggles. I was staring at their reaction to the new guy for quite a while.
"How could they take this fad all the way through the school year?" I thought to myself.
"The girl with the most claimed broken hearts wins?"
My thoughts were disrupted by the scolding of the vice principal, Mr. Stevens. I didn't realize the cheerleaders and I were the only ones left in the hallway.
Mr. Stevens directed his anger mostly towards the cheerleaders, but when the hoity toity girls left, he stared at me sharply with cold, unforgiving eyes. He rolled his eyes to the direction of my next class. I proceeded to enter the classroom. As soon as I went through the doorway, I saw the new guy standing on the platform, introducing himself.
He stopped mid-sentence, then all eyes turned to me. I cupped my hand over my mouth and looked around, playing dumb. When I sat down, the teacher cleared her throat and asked the new guy to repeat himself.
I'm relieved, though, that he didn't go too far from the top. After two or three sentences, I heard the same thing he said when I entered the room. When he said that line, he looked at me with a friendly smile.
"Scheiße.." I cussed myself. So much for first impression. I mentally noted the details of his introduction, and came up with this:
Name: Skye Williams
Age: 17
Moved from: NYC
That's about it...
I couldn't really pay attention to him with all the cheerleaders giggling and squirming. Skye descended from the platform and sat at my right. When the teacher wasn't looking, I faced him.
"Hey, Skye. I'm Kris. Sorry about earlier." I said, mildly blushing at the humiliation I've caused for both of us. He didn't really notice me at first, but then I realized he was just avoiding being caught by the teacher.
"Hi. Um, don't strain yourself. It's alright..." he smiled.
Class went on as usual, nothing worth of noting happened. All I was excited about was the sweet ringing of the crimson bell. 40 minutes had passed, and the bell rung. Everyone left, except for me. The teacher, Miss Clickman, called me forward, and I guiltily approached her.
I heaved an inaudible sigh in front of her.
"Look, um, Miss Clickman? Sorry I came in late. I know it's rude and --"
She interrupted me by placing her hand on my shoulder firmly.
"Don't sweat it, Krissy. I'm here to tell you about the closing party." she winked.
I cocked my head in confusion.
"Isn't that months from now?" I asked.
Miss Clickman nodded her head.
"Ah, yes. 2 months, to be precise. But we need to plan ahead of time to make it truly spectacular."
I gave it a moment of thought, then nodded my head in agreement.
"Alright teach, what about the closing party?"
"You're the one Mr. Stevens placed in charge of it, am I correct?"
"Yup." I answered, recalling the strict but strangely comforting teacher.
"Well, what do you have in store so far?" she asked.
"Um, I haven't really made progress on anything, considering how far away it is from now."
Miss Clickman shook her head in disappointment.
"Krissy, I will not tolerate your procrastination. If you don't start on this ASAP, I might have to replace you with Arie."
At that statement, I pictured the closing party to be decorated with collectible dolls strung with pink streamers, pink balloons and princess-themed frosted cupcakes. Arie is a bubbly girl, and I think she'd do a terrible job for a uni-sexual event.
"Alright, ma'am. I'll start on it after classes." I said, showing mild tension between her and I.
Miss Clickman raised her eyebrow at me, gave me a pat on the back and smiled.
"That's the girl I taught."
"Ahaha... ah..." I laughed uncomfortably. Her hot and cold personality can sometimes be a pain.
She placed her other hand on my other shoulder and shoved me out the door. Thinking about what just happened, I decided to laugh it off.
I took my time walking to my locker and smiled at a bunch of people who passed by, but that smile turned into a frown when I saw my best friend, Ceara, beating up Skye.
"As if what she did a while ago wasn't enough!" I yelled in my head. This girl is driving me nuts.
