Discovery Log #481520

As recorded by Dr.█████████

The day started off normally, bright skies and calm waves welcoming me as the boat drew closer to the islands of Tristan de Cunha. The trip had taken a total of six days, the final stretch of the journey in reach. With me were several other tourists and a few local guides, telling us what we should expect in the village, and most peculiarly, explaining their gods in such a 'casual' manner. I asked the guide more about these gods of theirs, in which he was happy to explain.

"Our gods are two extraordinary beings that descended upon our village long ago. Their presence set forth a new age of growth and prosperity for us, allowing our population to stay steady and healthy for many years."

"You speak about these gods as if they walk alongside you in the village. May I ask why?"

"They do walk alongside us. Everyday we are blessed with their presence, mingling with the villagers or using their auras to heal the ill. Oh! There they are now!"

At the time, I believed the guide was using metaphors so I turned around, expecting a double rainbow or some other sign of prosperity. Instead, my eyes fixed on two silhouettes, one lurking beneath the water and the other rapidly approaching the boat from above. Both figures come into view simultaneously, the flying creature gracefully swooping down and the aquatic creature emerging from the water. I couldn't believe my eyes of course, who would believe two towering anomalies appearing almost out of thin air. Nevertheless I stood still, other tourists around me shrieking in terror or running back into the individual boat rooms.

"They've come to welcome you to our village, blessed be! Blessed be!"

Each of the village guides rushed over to the aquatic creature, placing a hand on its muzzle and uttering the same 'blessed be' as the first guide. The flying creature merely watched, flapping its wings as to keep it hovering over the water. As shocked as I was about the entire situation, I attempted to keep my leveled head. Figuring that the creatures were friendly enough with the village guides, I momentarily let my guard down.

"Would your gods be opposed to an observation or two?"

It was immediately apparent that asking such a question was the incorrect thing to do, judging by both the creatures' reactions and the reactions of the village guides. The creatures' gazes darted in my direction as the aquatic creature raised its head. Without much of a sound, the creatures parted ways from the side of the boat, the aquatic creature sinking back into the water below while the flying creature launched itself into the air. After a brief moment of silence, the village guides seemed to be no longer interested in me nor any of the other tourists, simply returning to their designated quarters for the remainder of the journey. Neither creature was spotted near or on the island for the entire trip, including the boat ride back.
