The shrill sound of the kindergarten bell echoed through the brightly colored walls, signalling the end of recess. Savannah, a timid five-year-old with pigtails and a backpack almost as big as her, reluctantly left the sandbox. As she approached the swing set, she noticed a group of children giggling and playing together.
In the corner of the playground, there stood a boy with tousled brown hair and a mischievous glint in his eyes. Intrigued, savannah mustered the courage to join the fun. "Can I play too?" she asked, hopeful.
The boy, named alex, shot her a sly grin. "Sure, but only if you can catch me," he taunted, darting away with a mischievous laugh. Savannah, eager to fit in, chased after him, thinking, "Just 5 more minutes of playing, and maybe I'll finally belong." Little did she know those fleeting moments would shape the rest of her life.
