The address that Anika had given me was New York's finest ballroom, reserved for some of the wealthiest and powerful people here.

Who knew a hacker could fake an invite? Wonder if I could get free plane tickets too? Or even a passport?

With my luck, I would probably not get any closer to finding the culprit of the murder anytime soon, but I'd rather take my shot and hope that whoever controls the fate of this universe wants to be kind.

Now I've got two cases to solve. Fun.

It took me a while to find a dress that was fancy enough for an event like this and thankfully I found a gorgeous red dress that I had worn for an event a few years ago. Thankfully it still fit. I still had to find a mask and after a hour of trying to find a shop that would even sell them, it took another hour finding one that was perfect for the dress.

Even if I didn't get closer to finding the killer, at least I'd have fun and look good.

The venue was massive, the ballroom alone was the size of two football fields and was adorned with decorations that were fit for a palace. Apart from the ballroom, there was two dining areas on either side and areas that were closed off to the public.

Getting in was quite simple thanks to Anika, but playing the part was difficult. According to my invite, I'm here for business reasons and am looking for customers for my new clothing line, which is completely fake because I haven't used a sewing machine since high school. And there was definitely a reason I didn't take peruse acting, I had a horrible poker face.

A few people had already approached me and so far I had kept up the act and friendly conversation, yet I had an feeling of unease creep thought my body.

I slowly looked around for anyone watching me but saw nobody. I could have sworn I had felt someone's gaze piercing into my back.

Turning back around, I almost jumped when I saw a man in front of me. His perfectly fitted suit outlined his body and contrasted his bright green eyes that remind me of endless fields of grass that I could imagine myself running through. His hand was outreached and waiting for me to return the gesture. His hair was a dark shade of chocolate brown and I had the urge to run my fingers through the soft strands. Though the sharpness of his face resembled a statue of a Greek god.

"I'm Alexander Romano, pleasure to meet you Miss...?"" his words snapped me back to reality and I realized I was staring, which he clearly noticed given the smirk on his face.

"Carter, Lily Carter. Lovely to meet you to Mr. Romano." I reply smoothly, falling into the disguise that Anika had created. My real name would be to easy to track.

He nods in reply, but his eyes tell me he doesn't believe that lie when. Instead of shaking our hands when I place my hand over his outstretched one, he lifts it slowly and carefully to his mouth, gently placing a kiss.
