Chapter 3: Dinosaur Chicken Nuggets

It's pretty dark out now, so I better move fast.

The grocery store is about half away mile away from my apartment so it shouldn't take too long. The streets lamps are about 50 feet apart from each other , so I walked a little faster when in the dark.

What should I make tonight?

Nothing came to mind. I finally make it to the grocery store, it was well lit in contrast to the darkness surrounding it. The parking lot seemed a bit empty but that's probably because everyone else knew what they wanted to eat for dinner. I enter through the sliding doors where I am instantly warmed by the stores' heater. So toasty.

I made it, now what to make?

I wandered throughout the store, searching each aisle up and down for some kind of idea of what to make. I probably went through each aisle maybe twice, the snack aisle maybe four. I picked things up and put them down, I was so indecisive but so hungry at the same time. I found myself staring at ice cream in the freezer aisle. It wasn't food but it was something.

There was worker in the freezer aisle as well, they were stocking some of the warm-up meals maybe four doors down. I could see them in my peripherals, I better make my decision fast before I get in their way.

I could hear them working faster. They must really want to go home. What time is it anyways? I pull out my phone and see that it was 9:53. It was really late to be eating ice cream, should I just go home at this point?

"Ahem."

I looked to see that worker right in next of me. 

 "Oh, sorry."

I moved out of his way while he lugged a cart behind him that was full of new ice cream pints. I stared at the cart with a deep desire to just grab the first good looking pint. I disregarded the thought and turned around to find another freezer door that had a shelf displaying chicken nuggets. But not just any regular chicken nuggets though. Dinosaur chicken nuggets.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. As I picked up a foot towards the chicken nuggets direction, something else caught my attention. A man holding a basket making his way down the aisle, making a bee-line for said dino chicken nuggets.

Suddenly there is sound overhead.

"Attention customers, the time is now 9:55. The store will be closing in 5 minutes. Please bring your items to front. The store will be closing in 5 minutes."

It dawned on me. I need those chicken nuggets.

I was within arms reach of the freezer doors' handles when the mans' hand touched base first. In a split second I was staring at a mans back. He stood in between me and my dinner.

"Excuse me."

I quietly asked. He then closed the door and moved.

" You're excused."

Huh?

I looked at the shelf through the freezer door and see no dino chicken nuggets. I quickly whipped my head in the direction of the man before me. He was holding the last box, my dinner!

" Sucks."

I finally realize who was the person that I had my dinner hostage. Of course it's him.

" ugh."

I rolled my eyes and turned to walk away. I guess I'm just gonna pass by a 7 eleven on the way home. Maybe I'll buy one taquito or something.

" That's it?"

I ignored him and continued on. I heard foot steps following behind me.

" No bitchy come back? That's it? Just like that?"

Bitchy?

I stopped walking and stood in place. I heard that he did the same, I turned around as quick as possible. He wanted a bitchy come back? I had just the right one for him, but when I looked back expecting to see his annoying face again. He was handing out the dinosaur chicken nuggets to me.

" Take it."

I looked up at him, confused. I don't understand this man at all. Just a second a go he was bitching to start a fight again and now he's being nice?

" I'm good, thanks though."

" Look, I'm sorry about earlier. I was kind of a dick back there."

Kind of?

I stared at him, do I take the nuggets?

" Well?"

I walked over to a freezer door and grabbed a pint of ice cream. Looked at him, then walked away to a self-pay register.

Glitch stood there dumbfounded. He couldn't understand what he did wrong. He watched as I made my way to the self-pay. I paid for my ice cream, I didn't pay for a bag but grabbed one when no one was looking and out the door I went.

" What the fuck..."

Glitch muttered, he then ran to the self-pay as well and purchased his items and ran out the door.

At this moment I was speed walking away from the store, I just need to be out of sight if he was following after me. I was about to pass under a street lamp when all of a sudden I heard rapid foot steps.

" TAKE THE DAMN DINO NUGGETS?!"

ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?

He really wanted me to take his apology nuggets, but momma didn't raise no bitch. I gripped my ice cream pint and started sprinting.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?"

I haven't ran this fast since high school. I was feeling it deep in my lungs, the years really do catch up to you. I was near my apartment complex now, I turned my head while running to make sure the coast was clear.

It was not.

" STOP RUNNING?! CAN YOU JUST TAKE THE NUGGETS!?"

I turned a corner into my apartment complex and I started patting my pockets with my free hand to find my house keys. I could hear his footsteps echoing behind me, he was closing in.

I finally found my keys and I saw my door coming up. Almost there?!

I made it to my front door and began scrambling for the right key. I tried at least 3 keys, none of them were the key to my front door. WHY DO I HAVE SO MANY KEYS?!'

I was fumbling now, I needed to get inside asap.

"Why were you running?"

He was right next to me now, out of breath for sure. I still kept up with ignoring him as I searched for my key.

" I know you can hear me. Can you just take the nuggets, I know you wanted them."

" You don't know anything about me."

I finally turned towards him and glared.

*growl*

Nice going stomach.

It was silence for a good minute.

He handed me the nuggets and turned around.

"You're right, I don't know anything about you sorry for assuming."

I watched as he disappeared down the corridor as his foot steps faded away, my anger slowly faded into embarassment but I brushed the feeling off.

I really needed to eat.
