I have so many issues regarding the treatment of the Carpenters in the Scream franchise━specifically Sam. There's so much potential they wasted from her character. With the way things were established in the films ( including that one big fat mistake sp*gl*ss made about our beloved main actress ) it wasn't enough to fill in what was missing in her character after Scream VI. People believe it's an okay closure, but to me. . . meh. I respect their opinions.
Here's where I wanna step in! I want to take this opportunity to flesh Sam out. Not just her, but also what the movie writers have missed out on establishing in the Carpenter family. This includes their mysterious father, Sam's angsty teenage years after the revelation about Billy, Tara's feelings towards Amber post-killing, Tara and Sam's PTSD, and so on.
Also, you might be wondering about the timeline. If you're new to Scream, there's this glaring timeline continuity error in the franchise. The fifth movie is supposed to take place around 2021 but based on my research, the events there were taken in 2022 due to a production delay ( you suck, COVID! ) I had to explain that because I don't wanna get policed over this LOL. I'm just a girl who wants her self-indulgent OC to kiss Sam Carpenter, okay?
My story, however, will be taking place in 2022, but not around Scream VI. That means the Woodsboro legacy killings happened in 2021 in this fic's universe. I hope that's clear for the fans out there.
On the other hand, I also want this book to be for everyone. By that, I mean if you haven't watched any of the films, treat this story as a whodunnit slasher mystery. I don't encourage you to watch any of them just to know about what's going on with the Carpenters on a surface level because I'll be straying from some canon elements that don't enhance the story.
I'm well aware that the state of the fandom is a wreck and here I am, still booting up a Scream fanfic where it should've existed waaaay back. Who cares, though? I'm gonna be real and say if sp*gl*ss does not give a shit about Melissa Barrera, then I don't give a shit about taking their stuff. This is my Scream 7, except it's a prequel of sorts . . .
Kidding aside. . .
This story will focus on multiple POVs. The constant ones will be Sam, Tara, and Ghostface. If the chapter doesn't have the names of any aforementioned characters, then it will automatically be in a third(limited )omniscient POV.
I didn't include my OC as part of the POV on purpose. This is because . . . I want to play a game with you.Everyone's a suspect, so even if I love my OC and I want the best for them, they ain't safe. Despite the fact this fic was made to be between them and Sam, the story and the relationships around them matter the most. That said, I can't wait for you to meet them along the way! I hope you'll enjoy this messy whodunnit journey with the Carpenter sisters!
