Charlie hates Nicholas Nelson.

Ever since he transferred to Truham, he's hated him more than anyone or anything else in the world. He was out, and very proud of it. He had a trans flag pin under his rugby captain pin, he would go days without binding or wearing tape and nobody cared . He could cut his hair again, wear a boy's uniform, everything short of testosterone, and he'd still be called a girl.

He smoothed his skirt down in the mirror, turning to the side and trying to not be bothered by what he saw. If he saw Nick today, he would probably throw up. Everything about him made him feel like shit. He picked up his bag, probably the most definitively masculine thing he could have when he was wearing his uniform and went to see if his sister was ready.

Tori was the only person who knew, and she only found out because once, she borrowed his computer without asking, and he had been watching videos about recovery after top surgery, and well...Tori wasn't stupid.

"Charlie." She shut her door behind herself. "Good morning." She smiled; hands grasped onto her own bag. The Higgs uniform always looked so...right on her. When he used to wear it, he looked like a child.

Transferring to Truham meant that boys...well they talked to him. A lot. He was...flattered but. He never went out with any of them. What would that do? He would have to eventually tell them that he was a boy, so he just...ignored them. He said no to dates, turned down flowers, and he usually sat alone.

He split off from Tori when they got to school. He had to go to form, which...annoyingly. Was changing from the years prior. No longer was he with all the other year 12 Truham girls, who liked him quite a bit (which was strange, since the ones who came from Higgs used to hate him. This nice girl, Sahar, really liked him. She wanted him to play drums in her band but that's...a slippery slope,) he was stuck with people of all genders from all of the upper-grade levels.

He walked in and immediately regretted it. Mr. Lange held up a clipboard and smiled.

"Seating Chart, come on over Miss Spring." He almost turned around and just left to beg to be moved to another form group. But instead, his legs carried him over to the desk.

"You alright?" He looked up. "You were in the all-girls form group before, yeah?"

"Yeah...It's just uh. I'm just nervous. Sorry, Sir." He shifted his weight onto his other leg. "Where am I sitting?"

"Ah- Right back there" He gestured to the window. "Next to Nicholas Nelson. He's a kind boy, I'm sure you two will get along swimmingly."

His heart jumped out of his chest and into his throat. Nicholas Nelson? What kind of fucked up, terrible luck does he have.

He shuffled over, putting his bag on the floor and sitting in his chair. Normally, he'd sit with his knees to his chest. Most of the other girls did too, so it didn't matter that it caused an issue. But now...

"Hi." He smiled. "Who're you?"

"Er-" He looked at him. His eyes caught on his pins. It made him feel sick. "Charlotte. Spring."
