My parents have always appeared as happy people. Always smiling and showcasing confidence and power. Always in good shape and clean.

But right now, they were the complete opposite. My mom kept bouncing her leg to soothe her anxiety while my dad ran his hand through his head for what could be the hundredth time today, messing it up even further.

And I was sitting in front of them with crossed arms and staring at them in confusion and stress. It'd been half an hour since I saw the light and the man and twenty minutes since my dad said "They are coming," after being on the phone for ten minutes in his office while my mother and I waited for him in the living room.

Finally, the doorbell rang and my mother rushed up to it and opened up.

"What are they doing here?" I asked, even more confused when Mr and Mrs Carter walked into the living room.

"Because they need to be here for what we are about to reveal. Now, are you ready? Cuz, this is something serious and life changing." My father spoke in a tone that meant business. I nodded and waited anxiously as they looked at one another.

"Matt, you speak up!" Mr Carter scolded, causing my father pout slightly. "Oh my god..." Mr Carter sighed out and face palmed before turning to me.

"Alright, kiddo. I'm gonna need you to keep an open mind and listen before coming to any conclusion, okay?" I nodded once again.

"Okay, here we go...." Mr Carter frowned as he fought for words to speak but then gave up and turned to the others. "Nope! I can't do it! I will not do it! Susan, you try!" He pointed at my mother who looked like a deer caught in headlights now.

"What do you mean I should do it?! I was not the one born into that world! Either you or Mathew should do it! After all, you are old enough to have been there when the prophecy was read.." My mother uttered the last sentence and looked away while both men looked at her, bewildered that she indirectly called them old.

"Oh, this is priceless!" Mrs Carter laughed, patting her husband on the back as he glared at her. "Anyway, Matt; man up and tell your daughter what is going on! You chose to hide this from her so you deal with it now!"

"Fine, fine.. Eleanor, remember that book you love so much? The one about werewolves and vampires and stuff?" I nodded.

"Well, what if I told you those exist? What if I told you vampires, witches, werewolves and all other mythical creatures are real... what would you think of that?" My dad asked and they all waited for my answer.

"I'd think you woke up and decided to prank me using my favourite book genre, which I would not recommend because you will not like the repercussions." I spoke in a bored tone. "What does that have to do with anything that just happened?"

They all looked at me expectantly. Then, it all made sense. The blue lights coming from a man perched on top of the highest tree in the middle of the night.. my parents being nervous.. The Carters coming here in the middle of the night..

"Oh, son of a gun!" I exclaimed, half excited and half scared. "Are you serious?!" All of them looked baffled at my reaction and I was also partly wondering whether I had gone slightly mad.

"Yeah... uh, are you okay?" Mrs Carter asked as she looked at me in concern. That's when I decided to grab a hold of myself and stood there with my hands behind my back and nodded as I tried to hide the massive grin on my face.

"I just got told that my favourite mythical creatures are actually real. Do you have any idea how long I spent reading about them and wishing they were real so this world could appear cooler?! Being told that they exist is so exciting!" I jumped slightly as I talked.
