Hurricane, Utah 1983

"Hello Lillian, welcome back," her teacher says and Lily immediately sighs. It was the last lesson before lunch and she had been pretending to be okay for half of the day. Although pretending was natural to her, she knew she wasn't doing it as good as she could. She felt drained and the days were starting to feel so repetitive that it made her want to gouge her eyes out. Wake up. Get dressed. Ask mum if there's any news on Terrance. Go to school. Avoid Michael Afton. Go home. Repeat. Lily barely spoke a word to anyone, answering with one word answers, two words if she was feeling up to it. Everybody knew something was wrong. I mean, her brother had ran away and everybody knew her brother was her rock, the only thing keeping her from completely loosing it. However, what scared everybody the most was that even her best friends, Rory and Millie, couldn't get a sentence out of her.

As soon as the class ended, Lily was the first one out of the door. It became habit for Michael to make sure that the doorway was clear for her to get out first. He knew that she was avoiding him, it was so clear. It only angered him a little bit, which was odd because if it was anybody else he'd've already tried confronting them. Mike had become rude, ruder than usual. Terrance was his best friend after all, someone who reminded him to keep a cool head, someone who knew when to stop Mike from taking things too far. Maybe Mike would be nicer if Terrance was still here, but he isn't. He ran away and all Michael wishes is that he had taken him too. It doesn't help that a new person had joined their friend group, Mark Sinns.

Mark Sinns was a rude, cruel boy. The whole school hated him, and understandably so. He would hit, kick, bite and fight anybody he could. No rumours went around about him as they were all true. He was mostly known for his horrific pranks that left even the nicest, sweetest people upset and angry. People like Lillian angry. Mike had warned Mark away from Lily immediately, sprinkling in a few threats to ensure Lily was left unbothered. It didn't matter anyway, the friend group was planning their biggest prank yet, and it would all take place on Evan's birthday.

Hurricane, Utah 1983 — Fredbear's Diner

Lily hated working at Fredbear's Diner. She could claim it was because of the pay but that would be a lie. William Afton paid her much more than the other workers and she never could understand why. She could also claim it was because of the uniforms, but they were actually quite cute and better than other uniforms she'd seen. She had a headband with yellow rabbit ears on the top along with a white shirt and purple waistcoat and skirt. Black tights, boots and a bow tie finished it off. Like she said, others had it worse. The actual reason was because Michael Afton and his friends were always there. She hated when she had their shift. Everybody who works there calls it 'The Tormentor's Shift' because they're always there at the same time every school day, even longer on the weekends. It seemed like it was Michael's mission to annoy the ever living fuck out of Lillian.

Today was different though. It was now the summer of 1983, and it was Evan Afton's birthday. Lily had seen the child before, and even babysat him a couple of times. He was a very sweet child and she was determined to make sure his birthday was perfect. A week before, she had asked what he wanted for his birthday. He said he wanted his brother to leave him alone and to stop being mean. It broke her heart, but it also encouraged her to make sure his birthday was truly special.

"Miss Lily?" Evan says, approaching her nervously. He was much smaller, and always carried a yellow bear that he had clearly been given from the prize counter. "Hm? Oh Evan! Is everything alright?" Lily asks, crouching down so she's level with him. Michael glared from a distance. He hated that she was talking to his brother and not him, it didn't make any sense. "Is it true you're a princess? Because Mikey calls you one all of the time!" Evan asks curiously, earning soft laughter from the girl. She shakes her head and ruffles his hair. "I'm far from it sweetie, trust me." Evan simply nods and walks off again, his brother taking his place.
