Samuil's POV...
I yawned as I awoke, my body naturally outstretching as I awoke. The faint glints in the bunker sprang through the place, lighting it back up. My eyes adjusted to the brightness, and I ran my fingers through my hair as I processed the new day. Hopefully, it'd be the day we are finally rescued. Today is the day Hyrur and I will have to address our uhm... "situationship". How the hell did two enemies like us fall, anyway? I'm so confused, and I hope it's just a phase.
I began to sit up, and I looked down at Hyrur. His head was on my chest, I couldn't move an inch without waking him. A part of me softened, I felt my eyebrows loosen and my cheeks tingled with a sensation of blush. One of my clawed hands found its way to his hair, gently running through his hair and massaging at his scalp. He cooed in his sleep, his wings ruffling afterwards. His reactions were adorable, and I found myself drawn to him. Little birdie likes this, hmm?
I chuckled, and I stopped. "Wakey wakey, Hyrur. I'm not a pillow."
I nudged him, which got him to open his eyes and sit up. His expression showed that he was still tired and groggy. I smiled at him, handing him his hairbrush. He took it from me, adjusting himself so he had a better brushing angle. He grunted with each motion, displeased to be awake so soon.
"Sleep well? You were rather comfortable on my chest." I lightly teased, as he began to steadily brush his hair. He glared at me with his still-tired eyes, his fury was palpable; though it was outshined by his tiredness. Is it a Harpy trait to be disgruntled every morning? I'd never know.
"It's way too early for your shit, Sam. Let me at least have breakfast before you be all... bothersome." He grumbled, yawning after he spoke.
"Alright, alright. What do you want today?" I questioned, my voice a bit quiet so I didn't disturb the still-waking Hyrur. He remained silent for the rest of his hair brushing, shooting cold stares in my direction. I guess Harpys aren't morning-hybrids. Noted. He shrugged at my words, as he tied his hair up into a man-bun.
"What do we have? Also, we should ration today, share a meal instead of making the full portions." He said, sounding nervous. I didn't blame him, starving down here would be one hell of an experience... or death. He's right, we still have absolutely no idea when we'll be rescued. It'd be wiser to make half a portion each meal, and share it. I nodded, and I stood up.
"You're right, I'll go scrounge around the coolers and such, see what we have." I said, as I left the room. The kitchen area was small, so there was a lot of stuff just hanging out in the crates. I looked into the cooler first, just rummaging around to see what'd be easier to portion. The meat seemed to be the easiest, and more filling than the breads that were in there.
I looked through the cabinets, but it was mostly just spices and other items of that group. There were some unopened crackers, as well as some dried fruit, but that's all the food that was located in the cabinets. Not much of a cabinet selection, but I suppose the spices could be useful for making our meals less boring.
Everything else was just canned beans, peaches, tomatoes, soup, corn, and other things of that sort. No ravioli? Disappointing. Hopefully Hyrur won't be angry about that. I turned my focus back to what'd be easier to divide, which was the meat. I began preparing half of some ham, cooking it with plenty seasoning.
Hyrur finally decided to join me in the cooking area, standing a bit closer than he usually would as he cleared his throat.
"Ahem... so- we should talk about uh..."
He gestured to the two of us.
"This thing we've got going on." He said, sounding awkward and displeased. I nodded in agreement, as I turned to face him.
Hyrur's POV...
I sighed as I sat up from the bed, getting dressed into the only fresh clothes I had on-hand. I ran my fingers through my hair as I looked around, looking up towards the paintings that Samuil had found to be so alluring. They had been painted by his ancestors, enchanted with a spell. He's probably unaware that the spell used gives wraiths the ability to feel alive and emotional, which is probably why he's such a wuss. He always stares at it, but I'm not complaining, it gives me an advantage whenever we fight. I smirked to myself as I headed to where Samuil was cooking some ham for the two of us.
I stood a bit closer to him than usual, so we could begin having the serious talk about our situationship. I crossed my arms as I cleared my throat, starting up the conversation.
"Ahem, so- we should talk about uh... This thing we've got going on." Samuil nodded at my words, sighing as he shifted his feet.
"Yeah, yeah... uh- so... do you like me?" He asked, which caught me a bit off-guard. He usually danced around subjects that were usually informal, but I suppose we had no other choice but to confront it immediately.
"Well..." I hesitated, my talons clenched together. I had been enjoying pulling his heartstrings, I had completely forgotten he might actually fall for me. Would saying the truth be worth scaring my prey away? I'd have an easy opportunity to kill him, if he fell for me and my tactics.
I sighed, taking a step back. I had decided to play with him a bit more, keep him guessing. "I'm unsure... I guess I just like your company more than I thought I ever would." I admitted, sounding vulnerable and ashamed. I even adjusted my veil, to make it more believable that I was being genuine and nervous. His face softened as he looked at me, and he took my hands into his.
"I appreciate your honesty, Hy. I've grown to like your company, too. It's just... I have no idea why I feel so drawn to you." He admitted, his face going red as he shifted his feet. I could feel his body heating up because of our close proximity. I smiled, reaching forward to brush a strand of hair out of his face.
"It's okay, Sam. We'll figure it out. At least we don't have to worry about judgement down here." I smiled at him, offering false reassurance. But, even as I played with his heart, I could feel my wings trembling from happiness. Had I fallen for him?
There's absolutely no way that I fell for someone as pathetic and handsome as him. With his handsome stubble, and his muscular build... His deep, annoying, alluring voice to match.
.......
....
Yeah, I fell for him. But Harpys have a history of falling for anyone they get close with. I'll just get closer to someone else, Samuil doesn't mean anything to me.
"Thanks, Hyrur. I'm thankful for that, honestly. This whole thing is just so... so confusing to deal with. I had no idea being stuck together would have this effect on us." He said, as he shifted his feet and his fingers tapped against my palms. I chuckled, and I nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, this whole thing has been such a surprisingly calm disaster." I replied, sounding gruntled and amused. My hands shifted slightly, pulling away from him as I stared at him with playful eyes.
"This situation and these feelings makes me wonder if we're soulmates. That'd be... awkward, huh?" He said, obviously blushing. I frowned, laughing a bit.
"HAH! If we were actually soulmates, we'd probably spite each other so much that we'd kil-"
I was cut off by the oven beeping. Sam pulled the ham out of the oven, and I sighed. "Ooh, smells yummy. What seasonings did you use?"
He cut it up, portioning it onto two plates. "Brown sugar, honey, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. It's my mom's recipe." I nodded, impressed.
"My mom pours orange juice over it to flavor it and keep it juicy, she usually ads the spices afterwards."
Sam chuckled as he handed me my plate, and we both headed over to the dining area to eat. I could feel his stare beaming into me from across the table, he must've been in deep thought. Such a thinker, aren't you? No wonder you have a big forehead.
I bit into my ham, and I felt content with each bite. Sam continued staring as I ate, and my mind began to wonder. If we were actually soulmates, would he even love me? Probably not, I've done so much damage to him and his people...
