My name was Caroline Adela Eamon, I was the youngest daughter of marquise Eamon. My father had a total of six children, all but one of them were girls. My youngest sibling was merely ten years old at the time, his name was Archer, he was fathers favorite. My sisters and I were also well cared for; however, one by one we were each given away in arranged marriages. I was the last of us to leave the house. I stared at the floor as my father spoke,
"You will marry the Duke Ambrose Quinlan Este," he said, "a very fine match for you my dear," he continued,
"Caroline. Pay attention!" My mother fussed, "this is very important honey, you must listen and you must listen well," she said,
"Your mother is right," father cleared his throat mid sentence, "I understand that the Duke has a slight reputation; however, you will be able to live a life of luxury by his side, and the duke's territory is very well known for its vast beauty and wines!," he tried to ensure that I would be happy there. I merely nodded and returned my gaze to the floor. I'm sure the dukes territory would be beautiful, and that he was rich; however, there were awful rumors going around about Duke Este. Many said he was more a monster than a man. He was sent to war at age fifteen when his elder brother inherited the dukedom; however, he got to return five years later after his brother's mysterious death. Some even say he might've had a hand in his brother's undoing. He would be twenty one by now, I was merely eighteen years old. Another rumor said that he killed his last fiancé because she had done something he didn't like. I definitely did not want something like that to become of me,
"Is there... anyone else?" I asked, timidly,
"How shameful!" My mother protested, "this is for the betterment of our family name! And you will get to live a life full of luxury and money! For such ungrateful words to spill from your mouth! Shame on you child!" She scolded me, I quickly remembered why I never spoke up. Her lectures could last an hour if she felt like it. Finally, father stopped her from continuing and cleared his throat once more,
"No, Daughter, there is no one else, but do not be so worrisome my child, I promise you that you will have a good life," he smiled, attempting to reassure me,
"Yes, father," I shriveled up, defeated. Now what was I gonna do?
