After hearing my words he lessened his pace and slowed as for me to catch up,
"Do you have any conditions, Lady?" he asked. It was the first time anyone had actually asked how I felt. I worried silently about the trouble I could get in based on my response, I wanted to answer, to say something, but my mouth was clamped shut with fear. "Lady Caroline?" he repeated,
"Yes, um, all I ask is that I can still see lovely flowers and eat good food each day!" I smiled, suppressing my embarrassment from my stupid answer. It seemed I was not in control of my own words that day,
"I see, well, I will have that ready for when you arrive at the Este estate," was all he said. Soon after that, he finally left.
