"Who the fuck are you?" Aiden asked.

I felt Noah's sharp intake of breath beside me. I could only imagine the feelings coursing through him at the sudden appearance of his middle school bully. I knew it was traumatizing to say the least.

Aiden hadn't changed much but at the same time he had changed a lot. His black curls were longer now, down past his ears and almost shoulder length and he was definitely broader than the last time I'd see him, muscles and veins in his arms prominent. He'd gotten taller too, it was obvious even though he hadn't stood up yet.

The blue eyes were still the same though. Frosty, blue eyes that stared at you with disdain and the same sneer on his lips.

He hadn't changed one bit.

But I had.

"Who the fuck do you think?" I asked, my voice cool and couldn't care less while my heart thudded in my chest.

"Did you think you had this entire room to yourself? Don't be dumb. He's your roommate and I'm his best friend here to help him put away his stuff. If you're gonna be bitter about it, do it elsewhere."

The room was silent and I could feel cold sweat on my lashes. Aiden blinked and turned back to his game.

"I asked a simple question, no need to be a bitch."

"A simple question doesn't include a swear word."

"Whatever."

I tugged Noah's arm forward towards the mini hallway where I could see bedroom doors.  "Let's go Noah."

Aiden paused, his fingers still on the buttons. He looked up at us again and emotions flickered behind his eyes too fast for me to decipher.

"Noah?"

Noah shuddered, his face getting impossibly pale.

Aiden spoke again. "Noah Rent? From middle school?"

He turned to me, "Ellie Stone?"

Noah licked his lips as if to talk but I spoke up first.

"Yeah? What?"

Aiden stared at the both of us, his eyes zeroed in on our hands. He shook his head with a scoff.

"I see you both haven't changed." He sneered at me, "still babying him I see."

"Still being a dick I see."

Aiden grinned and stood up. "Wow you've leaned to talk back Ellie, how surprising. What about you Noah? You've been standing there, opening and closing your mouth like a fish."

Noah let go of my hand. "Yeah that tends to happen when I see my sick in the head abuser. It's been a while Aiden but definitely not long enough. It sucks you are my roommate but you better not get any stupid ideas. You ignore me and I ignore you." Noah grabbed me by my shoulder and pulled me closer to him. "And you better ignore Ellie or I will break your jaw."

My jaw fell open.

Aiden raised both hands in mock defense. "I'm so scared, look at my knees knocking together in fear."

He took a step forward and i nearly shrank back. It was obvious he was 6'2, the same height as Noah as they both stared at each other, Noah frowning deeply and Aiden with his signature smirk. My 5'5 self could only watch tensely.

Aiden's smirk dropped when his eyes lowered to meet mine. He shrugged and turned away. "Don't worry, I don't want to be in your business, I have better things to do with my time. You guys stay away from me."

"Gladly," I said.

I couldn't see his face but the slump in his shoulders caught me off guard.

Aiden picked up his switch and walked out the room.

Noah and I looked at each other.

"Welcome to college," I said.
