Piper and Alli stared at each other. Piper blinked. Alli yawned.

"So." Began Piper. "Whatcha wanna do?"

Alli shrugged. Piper huffed in annoyance. Alli was Mr. McLean's brother's daughter. And Piper was saddled with entertaining her for the afternoon as the older visiting family talked. It was sad, really. Piper wasn't some little kid. She would rather talk with the adults than watch her twelve year old cousin, who shouldn't even need watching. But Alli's every need had been taken care of for her since she was three and Piper's dad had started handing out money to relatives. Sometimes Piper wished her dad wasn't a famous actor. Or wait - that was all the time.

Alli pulled out her phone. Brand new technology sometimes confused Piper. She had been away in Greece or on quests for so long. The last phone she had owned before she left was an iPhone 3 - one that she had taken out of a store unintercepted. Now there were three more. But to Piper, phones didn't really matter. Especially now that they attracted monsters.

A burst of laughter came from the main room where the adults were. Piper was practically an adult. She certainly had done more to help the world and seen more things than they could ever imagine. Why was she stuck with this immature brat?

"So." Piper began again. "Um. How about we go down to the mall?"

"Whatever. "

"Oookay. Sounds like a yes. " Piper stood up. Alli stayed down.

"Are you coming?"

"Yeah, just a sec. "

Piper tapped her foot and entertained herself by glancing around at all the photos on the walls. She had come back to her dad's house because he requested she come for "Christmas Break'. Her dad also thought she was attending a new boarding school.

"Are we going?" Alli had arisen and was disappearing out the door.

Piper shook herself and followed, albeit reluctantly.

One block and a store later, Alli and Piper were back to square one. Alli had decided she was bored with shopping once Piper had refused to buy her a dress. Now she was in a heated conversation with a friend over phone about whether the skirts were better at Banana Republic or Maurice's.

Piper didn't really care. She didn't like wearing skirts.

She sighed, bored. They were sitting on a bench in the mall.

Across from them sat an old lady. She wore a big hat. It had a large blue feather. You couldn't see her face because of a newspaper.

Piper didn't like that old lady. She had a weird feeling in her stomach.

Next to her Alli groaned. "Why can't you understand?! Banana has so much more style! .....Ok, I'll prove it to you. Just a sec. "

Alli stood up. "Hey! Hey, you!"

The old lady looked up.

"Yeah, you! Do you think Maurice's or Banana is better?"

The old lady started walking towards them.

Alli blinked. "You don't have to come over. Just tell me."

The lady didn't stop walking. She was five feet in front of them, the newspaper still pulled up to hide her face.

The hand that held Alli's phone dropped slightly.

"What is your problem? You are so creepy. Go away!" Alli's voice trembled ever so small.

Suddenly Piper stepped forward on instinct. Her hand swooped forward and tugged off the lady's hat. Piper gasped.

Underneath was not some gray and white hairdo. The first thing that tipped off to Piper this thing was
actually a monster was the face. A normal grandma doesn't have fangs, right?

Alli blinked at the monster, who was slowly bringing down her newspaper and starting to hiss.

"Alli, run!"

"Why? I'm not scared of some bald old hag. Just cause she's ugly and slightly creepy doesn't mean I'm gonna run away screaming. "

Piper thought fast. Alli couldn't see through the mist.

"Um, well, there's a half off sale at uh, Old Navy. That way! Go! Before they're all gone!"

Alli's eyes widened. She stuffed her phone in her pocket and took off.

Piper ran a little ways after her, to make sure she was well away. Then she started running the other way, calling, "You are so much uglier than my grandma! And my grandpa took one look at her and fainted!"

The monster roared. "I am not ugly! I bought three hundred dollars worth of beautiful clothes!"

She probably stole it. Thought Piper.

Slapping sounds came from behind her, and she realized the monster was chasing her on big, floppy reptilian feet stuffed into flip flops. Piper turned around to face the runner and pulled out the dagger she always kept with her.

"You think that will save you sweetie? Think again. Ha! Your death is coming soon. You will never live to see the sale at Old Navy. "

Piper would have laughed if she wasn't be stalked like a mouse.

She blocked a slice from the hag's claws stabbed inward, which the monster avoided smoothly. The two fought, metal on tooth and claw.

Piper wasn't sure exactly what everyone else saw.

"You don't want to hurt me." Piper said sweetly to her attacker. "You are very afraid. And you want live to go shopping."

The monster stepped away for a second, before shrinking back in fear and running the other way. Halfway down the hall she stopped and turned around.

"Stupid daughter of Aphrodite! You will not trick me! Arghhh! Oh! Ahhh! No!"

Piper watched in surprise as suddenly a blade appeared through the hag's stomach. She crumbled to reveal Jason. Piper's eyes widened.

"Hey! I didn't know you were here! And I could've handled that monster. "

Jason chuckled. "What's a boyfriend for if not to destroy monstrous old ladies?"

As they walked down the hall to find Alli, he explained he was looking for her at her father's house, but was told to find her here. They neared Old Navy and spotted Alli's curled blonde hair.

~~~~~~~~~~
Alli didn't have a very high opinion of Piper. She wasn't very cute. She wouldn't buy her own cousin a stupid dress, and she lied about a sale at Old Navy.
But when Piper appeared around the corner on the arm of a tall, muscular, blonde hottie, Alli did not care one bit.
She needed to be with that guy.
"Hey, Alli!" Piper stopped. Then she almost laughed. She knew right away what Alli was thinking. She was an Aphrodite kid, after all.
Poor Jason. She thought.
