The summer was uneventful. I did, however, receive several letters from my friends.
September 1st is already upon me, and needless to say, I've missed Hogwarts. I've missed the food, my friends, my classes... even the Marauders. Their pranks were quite brilliant, not that I'd ever tell them that.
I'm now going to be a second year. And judging by how fast the last school year went by, I'll be a third year in no time. I'll be able to enjoy days out to Hogsmeade and I'll have more classes.
My family arrives at Kings Cross with about thirty minutes to spare. Dad isn't there to see us off because he had to be up north for work. Mum pays the driver and we get our trunks from the back and gather at a bench.
She seems distracted as she puts her wallet into her bag. Almost as if she knows something we don't. I'm not the only one who notices. "Mum? Are you okay?" Ty asks.
She raises her head and realizes that all of us are staring at her, all worried.
"Of course, I'm fine. It's just," she pauses, "I'll miss you two." She pulls us into a hug and I notice that Ty is still worried. He knows why she's like this.
To be honest, I can't help but feel upset that they're keeping something from Jordon and I. Do they feel that we can't handle it?
Mum is wearing muggle clothes, what she likes. She was raised my Muggles despite being half blood. Today, it's a muggle band shirt, it says Led Zeppelin and has a man in a cloak holding a lantern and staff, the sleeves are cut off. Her jeans are worn and loose, her trainers are the same. You couldn't tell she was a witch.
We all sit at the bench in an uncomfortable silence.
"When did you last talk to dad?" I ask.
The mention of him makes her look even more distraught. "Last night. He sends his love."
"Mum, what's wrong?" Jordon asks.
Instead of answering, she quickly stands and grabs Ty's and my hand. "We'll discuss this properly when your term is finished, alright?"
We nod uneasily.
She looks at her watch, "We best go find a cart."
We load our trunks to carts and go across the barrier to the platform.
Once across, I instantly spot Remus Lupin reuniting with Sirius Black. They hug and Sirius says something to Remus rambunctiously while Remus laughs and looks happier than I've ever seen him.
Mum turns toward us and we all hug. Unable to contain her excitement, she says happily, "Just imagine, I'll be seeing all three of you off next year." The thought of it has Jordon looking nervous.
"Well, I love you, don't hesitate to write me. Focus on your studies," says as she shoos us to the train.
As we board the train, Ty turns around and says he'll be in a compartment with his friends. He leaves and I start to look for an empty compartment. I could sit with my friends, I think, but I like to collect myself before we get to the school.
Throughout the train ride, the Marauders pass by my compartment several times, each time Remus waves or smiles, Lily walks by with Snape, prefects check on first years, and the trolley stops to ask if anyone is interested in sweets.
I think about so many things along the way as well. I think about the narrowing possibility of being head girl. I think about any boys I may start to take a fancy to.
The thought of boys kinda makes me excited. The year before, I really detested the idea of them, but this year I've started to notice their transitions into puberty. Black's voice got deeper and his hair is growing out. Potter is a lot taller and his bone structure is more defined. Frank Longbottom's voice cracked as he yelled goodbye to his mum. Timothy's robes kinda smell. It excites me because maybe they'll also mature.
