What Would You Do?

We've all heard of What Would You Do? With John Quinones, but what would you actually do if you were faced with the challenge of accepting a million dollars or turning down the biggest crush you've ever had?

I'd taken months out of my life, sweating, bleeding, crying, to maybe even get a chance to get these million dollars. And I finally got it. All my work had paid off, all the friends I made were cheering, waiting happily for me to accept the large cardboard check.

I looked at them, beaming, but my smile faltered when I looked at him. He had his usual scowl on, but this time I knew it was because he had lost.

"I really wanted to win." he said, our feet dangling off the edge of the building. The stars twinkled above us, almost winking at me "But, I guess it just wasn't my time."

I nodded, smiling faintly.

"I can't wait for you to be eliminated, for you to just be able to hang out with me all the time and it not just be a small visit."

Now here I was, every visit after that I could sense him leaning away, metaphorically. Upset and pissed that the friend he thought would never beat him because I was less smart, shorter, less athletic. But I did it, I had won. I had exceeded the expectations and now I was suffering the consequences.

"C'mon man, you got this!" My friend celebrated. She smiled encouragingly at me. I tried to muster a matching smile but I couldn't. I can't do this.

"I can't"

"What was that?" the creator asked "What did you say?"

"I can't...accepet this." I said "I don't deserve it."

My friends stopped cheering, their smiles fading.

"What do you mean?" my best friend asked. She had been there for me the whole competition, but now. She looked disappointed.

"I-I'm sorry," I stuttered out "I can't do it."

I ran off, running away from my friends, the people I mildly-liked and him.

I crouched under an awning, hiding, hoping that nobody would find me. I heard the host say "Alright contestants, now that our winner has declined the money. It's up to anyone to get it."

I heard a stampeding of feet and footsteps pass me by and I knew it was over. That even though I had given up what means the most to some people, I could still never get what means the most to me.

After a while I finally emerged, my cheeks glistening with tears. I looked around to see if anybody was still there, all I saw was the one awkward guy, sadly eating a banana. I ran off to find my friends.

As I ran through the woods I heard someone say "Hey man, we're over here!"

I looked around to see a group of the friends I had made during the earlier competitions.

"Hey guys!" I said cheerfully, heading over to them "What are you guys doing?"

"Just looking for that check, wanna help?"

"Sure!"

We started walking through the woods, the other guys were talking about the girlfriends and crushes they had gotten during this.

"Oh hey." one of them said to me "You got a crush or a girlfriend?"

"Oh, no." I assured them, and immediately after that, a girl came swinging in on a vine, yelling like Tarzan.

She stopped in front of our group and asked "What's up! Have you found anything?"

My cheeks instantly turned the color of cherries as I realized he would be close to her. They were always hanging out together, and with the girl's girlfriend.

"Ooooh," one of the guys giggled "You like her!"

"No, I don't!" I insisted, blushing even harder when my actual crush walked into view.

Goddamn, teenage emotions will be the death of me.

I awkwardly waved to them. One of the guys elbowed me and I shoved him away.

Our groups decided to merge and me and my crush fell behind the rest of them.

"Sorry for winning." I said, blushing still.

"No, it's fine. I'm sorry for thinking that you wouldn't make it this far."

"No, I didn't either. But I did!" I cheered "I'm proud of myself!"

"I'm proud of you too Coco." he congratulated "You did good."

He walked ahead of me, not realizing the impact of those words.

Finally, our group came upon the check I had turned down. I turned towards my crush, wondering if he would say anything.

"Who wants to fish it out of the water?"

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH I screamedd internally.

"Ooooooh let me!" his friend squealed, and she dived into the water. Reappearing with the paper in her mouth.

We all cheered and ran to the host! We all high-fived, and clapped, celebrating all the way.

We made it to the Throne of the Host and one of my friends proudly presented the check.

"Congratulations to you all!" the man said "You will all be competing again to win this money. Now get out of my face."

We all smiled and walked back to our hotel.

"We should start making alliances." my crush said "Us three, and him." he pointed to me.

His friend, the one who swung in on the vine earlier, poked him in the ribs. She winked and he rolled his eyes.

"Does that work for you?" he asked me, earnest in his eyes.

'Yup!" I said, again I was screaming interranlly because He. Chose. Me!

I nearly skipped the rest of the way to my room. I nearly danced around my room while packing. I opened the door, nodding my head and carrying my suitcase. When I ran into his chest.

"Ah, back up Coco." he said, gently pushing me away from him. I blushed, looking up at him.

"Wanna walk to the dock together?' he asked.

I nearly knocked my head off nodding so hard. He smiled, "Good."

We started walking to the port, and he even closed the distance between us.

Oh, I couldn't wait to spend more time with him. Even though he was just a little bit blunt, he was nice to me.
