Cuphead's POV:
Well, what'd ya know? The day came and I was a bit anxious not only from what Elder Kettle told me but from Chalice.I think I might've gotten a crush on her. I am litterly hitting my head on the wall a thousand times for thinking that. She's my friend. Why should I have a crush on her?
"Cups, will you stop banging on the wall here. It's messing with my training so please!" I heard Mugs from his room.
I stopped and just told myself to stay calm that it wouldn't stick for that long. Wait....nuh-uh it's gonna stay alright.
I tried to read my favorite comics but nothing would work! I gave out an exasperated sigh as I sat down against the wall. It was fun being with my thoughts and now it's really not.
"Hey, Cups! Do you want to watch a movie at the inkwell theater! I got us some tickets and Elder Kettle is asleep" Mugman barged into my room with his eyes full of excitement.
"......" I was speechless cause how was I going to go at the theater and at the same time go to the dance.
"Yeah, sorry Mugs. I was actually going to the dance" I said uneasily.
Instead of being angry at me, or doing his sad eyes. He looked at me suspiciously as I looked at him confused.
"Are you going because of some...." Mugman trailed off his sentence for a bit until he said "Girl?"
I blushed in embarrassment as I wanted to beat up my brother. "Mugs! Why would you think that?"
He looked at me with a sly smile on his face and said "So you are going for some girl. Wooo-hooo! Who's the lucky girl?"
"First of all, she's a friend. Second of all, I'm just going to have a good time"
"Alright, alright. You don't mind if I go too, don't you?"
I looked at the clock. The dance was about to start in one hour. I guess we could do some last minute shopping.
I ran with Mugs all the way to town so he could pick out a mask and a suit. He picked out a dark blue suit with a flower in the pocket with a white mask that had crystals around the edges with a white feather on the side. We ran home, panting, to take off the tags and quickly put the suits on.
I was wearing a dark red suit with a flower in the pocket with a red mask that looked like flames with a touch of different heat glitter color on the side with a feather.
We laughed at ourselves looking at the mirror in Mugs room as we just basically looked like we were almost matching. We ran to the school barely on time.
The masquerade ball began and I was thinking about the budget because it looked too formal. They put a chandelier glowing with candles, a DJ in the middle ready for any requests, and a neon dance floor that glowed.
Everyone barged in laughing and cheering as the DJ put some music to start the dance. I stayed at the corner scanning everyone. I didn't see Chalice nowhere. I just started to dance with everyone for a few minutes still looking for her.
After what seemed like forever I just stayed at a table in the corners as I still scanned everyone. Mugman came out from his spot and said "C'mon Cups where's your spirit?"
I shook my hand to signal him to keep dancing or do whatever he was doing.
He still stayed with me to keep me company and for a moment everyone stared at the entrance. With us looking at each other with our straws shaped like a question mark we tried to get around the crowd of people. I at least got to the side while Mugman was somewhere near the middle.
I felt my heart racing as soon as I laid my eyes on her. She was wearing a golden gown that seemed to sparkle along with the chandelier with a mask that was shaped like a crown with crystals dangling.
The crowd was overflowing which soon got me off my little space. She then tried to get to the dance floor but everywhere she went it would be someone over obsessing over her outfit. Chalice just would smile awkwardly as from what I knew she didn't like compliments much.
I mean, she does but not too many at once. She kind of has a little bit of anxiety. I again tried to get over the crowd and finally had to drag her from the mess.
"Thanks Cups! I don't know what I could've done to get over that heaping crowd. It just gives you the hipsies!" We were hiding in a corner where a backdrop stood.
I sighed as my mind finished processing what happened. "Well, at least, you got off the hook for now. Just gotta distract them for a bit and then they forget"
"I ain't waiting here" she wailed. After a few minutes, I told her that she could now just enjoy herself without a crowd beside her.
Like always, we just chatted even if most of the time we were joking around acting formal. "Would you like a glass of tea, madmoiselle" I bowed trying to hold back laughter.
"Oh of course mosier" I was already laughing at my knees while she was almost banging on the table.
A song came up called "El Payaso Del Rodeo." I was familiar with it even though Chalice was confused. I just told her to dance beside me so she'll learn the dance.
At first it started slow and she seemed to get the hang of it until the music went faster. When the music got fast, everyone had to jump in order to go to the beat.
"Woah!" Chalice tripped on her dress when doing a swift turn. I quickly grabbed her, made a little twirl with her so I was in pace with the song and finally got her back on her feet. At some point she kinda got tired since she was wearing heels and sat down for a break.
This is embarrassing to say but on a part of a song it would get faster where everyone would just twirl around and then get back to starting position. Instead, my ass was still doing the fast paced dance and I almost stepped on a girls foot.
I was about to spill the contents inside my head. Now at the end I was standing there flushed in embarrassment as Chalice was laughing her ass off.
"Hey, it's not my fault. I just forgot about that part" I said when I finally sat down with her.
"Says the one- who got me to dance" She was trying to speak between her laughs.
Finally, a song we could agree on came up. It was called "Macarena." I mean, of course everyone knew that song but meh. I was dancing with Chalice facing each other, laughing with glee. At the end of the song I broke out some break dance moves which got the DJ to play a more exiting one.
Chalice was quite impressed herself, not gonna lie. Some time passed and It was time to go. But even so, some force rumbled the ground as the chandelier wanted to break right where Chalice was.
The chandelier was falling right on top of her. I quickly pushed her off so she would reach the tables to hide in. Unfortunately, my leg was caught in it causing a bad crack. I didn't have time to care since the beast that had broken in the school roared in terror.
Who would've known that Elder Kettle was right....
